Ruben Amorim has been announced as the new manager of Man United. But he will continue to lead Sporting until the end of the match against Braga on 11 November.
Welcoming Man City in the Champions League in the early morning of November 6 (Vietnam time) marked Amorim's last home match at Sporting. He and his students created a great performance when coming from behind to defeat The Citizens with a score of 4-1.
After the match, the Portuguese coach shared emotionally: "The opponent missed a penalty, but we were also in a hurry from the beginning. What will come will come. I could not have expected a better goodbye.
People said it had to be like this tonight. It was special and we deserved it. I made a pun about Sir Alex Ferguson and being compared to him. But I won't be reading anything online for the first six months in Manchester."
"I thank everyone for this victory. I will keep these memories forever and it was a beautiful moment. This is my way of saying goodbye to this stadium," he added.
Before the game, coach Amorim knew the result against Man City would be highly watched. He was delighted with the win, but was aware that expectations would be high.
“I am focused on winning the Sporting match. It may raise expectations for me, but I also do not know what is better as I prepare to embark on a new adventure," Amorim expressed.
