Vietnam Television has just announced that it owns the broadcasting rights for the 2026 World Cup, and is also the only unit in Vietnam holding public broadcasting rights. This is a difference compared to many previous World Cups.
Accordingly, VTV is the only unit allowed to organize or allow other parties to deploy football viewing points in public places. Forms may include fan zones, restaurants, cafes, cinemas or outdoor areas.
Currently, VTV is implementing a number of football viewing events combined with performance activities to serve the needs of young audiences.
From an operational perspective, public broadcasting helps broadcasters expand copyright exploitation, create additional revenue from sponsorship, advertising...
On the viewer's side, this form meets the need to watch football in groups, especially in big matches. Instead of watching individually, viewers can choose centralized spaces with large screens and accompanying services. Some programs combining football watching with performances also aim to serve young audiences.
On the television system, VTV is expected to broadcast live all 104 matches, including the opening and closing ceremonies and accompanying programs.
Channels like VTV3 will play a key role in conveying top matches, in addition to content distribution on other channels. In parallel, on the digital platform, VTV will provide live viewing, replay and on-demand content services, suitable for modern consumer habits.
The 2026 World Cup will be the most special tournament in history when it gathers 48 teams and will have 104 matches in 3 countries including the US, Canada and Mexico. This expanded scale promises to bring many surprises, drama and opportunities for teams around the world.
VTV's early announcement of the copyright also shows its proactiveness in accompanying FIFA to spread the heat of the tournament.
