After 10 days of training and friendly matches in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, coach Kim Sang-sik and his colleagues conducted a professional assessment and reduced the U22 Vietnam team.
This is a preparation towards the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship with the goal of successfully defending the championship title, after two consecutive crowns in 2022 and 2023.
Accordingly, U22 Vietnam said goodbye to 8 players including Nguyen Quang Vinh, Le Dinh Long Vu, Dinh Xuan Tien (Song Lam Nghe An), Nguyen Dang Duong (The Cong Viettel), Nguyen Le Phat and Nguyen Bao Long (PVF), Le Van Thuan (Thanh Hoa), Dinh Quang Kiet (Hoang Anh Gia Lai).
This group of players has returned to their home clubs to prepare for the new season, but is still in coach Kim Sang-sik's long-term plan for upcoming major tournaments such as the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games.
According to the plan, U22 Vietnam will continue to practice in Ba Ria - Vung Tau until July 12, before moving to Ho Chi Minh City to fly to Indonesia on the morning of July 14.
Before leaving, the official list of 23 players will be announced and the team will compete under the name U23 Vietnam.
The 2025 U23 Southeast Asian tournament will take place from July 15 to 29 in Indonesia. In the group stage, U23 Vietnam is in the same group as U23 Laos and U23 Cambodia, competing on July 19 and 22.
