On August 5, coach Kim Sang-sik had an online interview with the Korean press. Accordingly, the strategist born in 1976 revealed how to help him and the coaching staff get closer to the players.
I always try to be close and friendly with each player. They also like the way I interact with them. Outside of practice, I often meet, chat or play with the players even in the treatment room. There were even times when I imitated coach Park Hang-seo to create a comfortable atmosphere.
I see that the cultures of Vietnam and Korea have many similarities. Therefore, I am always open to communication and building cohesion. I know that Vietnamese players love Korean ginseng, so I brought it from Korea to give them, or gifts like sunscreen or cosmetics, said Mr. Kim.
Since coming to Vietnam, coach Kim Sang-sik has reaped the first sweet fruits. He led the Vietnamese team to win the 2024 ASEAN Cup championship and won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship with U23 Vietnam.
These successes have helped the 49-year-old coach build trust among fans.
In the interview, he also mentioned the previous achievements of coach Park Hang-seo: "Mr. Park has achieved incredible achievements, that does not need to be added. I cannot let the legacy left by coach Park Hang-seo be ruined. I would not let anyone else do that.
As the second Korean to lead the Vietnam national team, I am very happy that the abilities of Korean coaches have been proven. Recently, Mr. Park called to congratulate me. I always respect and try to promote the achievements he has done.
In the face of coach Kim Sang-sik, the 33rd SEA Games will take place in Thailand this coming December. The Korean strategist is expected to help U22 Vietnam win the gold medal in men's football.
