After the overwhelming 7-0 victory over the Maldives women's team in the qualifying round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship, coach Mai Duc Chung praised the whole team, but could not hide his regret because the scoring performance was not as expected.
"We want to win more to clearly show our efforts in the recent past. I hope the players score more goals, but it's a pity that we missed too many, including a penalty," said the captain of the Vietnam women's team.
According to Mr. Chung, the first half went smoothly, but in the second half, some players began to show signs of decline, somewhat satisfied with the result. This caused the home team to fail to maintain the pressure as expected.
Talking about the decision not to use Huynh Nhu as a starting player, coach Chung frankly shared: "It's not like Nhu didn't play well. But he is also old, his physical strength and felt of the ball have not returned to the way he was before, so I did not start."
In addition, the coach born in 1951 praised young faces such as Ngoc Minh Chuyen - who had his first official match and showed good speed and Ngan Thi Van Su - who scored with the opening goal.
"The whole team played very hard. We wish we could have won 8-0 or 9-0. But the important thing is that the team is on the right track and will continue to improve in the upcoming matches," Van Su said.
