This afternoon (March 27), the Asian Football Confederation conducted a draw for the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers. Accordingly, the Vietnam women's team is in Group E, along with opponents Guam, UAE and Maldives.
Thanks to their good ranking on the FIFA rankings (37) and 6th place in Asia, the Vietnam women's team was ranked in the number 1 seed group.
Sharing about the draw results, coach Mai Duc Chung said: Among the 3 teams in the same group, the Vietnam women's team has only played against Maldives in the 2022 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Although the Vietnamese women's team won a big match, recently, countries in the continent have been investing and changing strongly, so we cannot be subjective."
For the UAE opponent, on March 22, the Ho Chi Minh City women's team welcomed a representative from this country, Abu Dhabi Country Club. Through that match, it can be seen that UAE women's football has many physical advantages over naturalized players.
"The Guam women's team is a new opponent for the Vietnam women's team, however, according to preliminary information, this is also a physical and strong opponent," Mr. Mai Duc Chung assessed.
According to the plan, to prepare for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers, it is expected that in May, the Vietnam women's team will have its first gathering and play an international friendly match in Hanoi. Currently, VFF and the coaching staff are actively working and preparing to arrange a training program with the highest professional quality for the team.
The 2026 Asian Cup Women's Qualifiers will take place from June 23 to July 5, 2025 with a total of 34 participating teams, divided into 8 groups with 6 groups with 4 teams and 2 groups with 5 teams. At the end of the qualifying round, the top 8 teams qualified for the Women's Asian Cup finals in Australia next year.
