The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) have decided to apply VAR (video assistant referee technology) in the National First Division football tournament.
The application of VAR in the First Division has been approved by the World Football Federation (FIFA) with strict compliance related to technical factors.
The first match with VAR will be the highlight match of round 9 between Binh Phuoc and Ninh Binh. These are two teams with ambitions of promotion this season. While Ninh Binh is leading the rankings with 21 points, 7 wins, Binh Phuoc is right behind with 1 point less but has played one more match.
According to Mr. Dang Thanh Ha - Head of the VFF Referee Committee, because the upcoming match is important in the promotion between the two teams Binh Phuoc and Ninh Binh, VAR is applied to ensure maximum professionalism.
After applying VAR in the match between Binh Phuoc and Ninh Binh, the organizing committee will evaluate the results to make further decisions.
Most likely, if there is an important match in the First Division, depending on the actual conditions of the field as well as the specialized VAR vehicle not working in the V.League, this technology will continue to be applied.
It is known that to prepare for the match applying VAR at Binh Phuoc Stadium, the home team Binh Phuoc installed 2 more camera positions according to the requirements of this technology.
VAR will be applied for the first time in V.League from the 2023-2024 season. At that time, only a few matches in each round will have this technology. By the 2024-2025 season, VAR will cover all matches in V.League each round. In the First Division, the upcoming round 9 will mark the first time VAR will appear to support referees in this tournament.
