The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has just issued a financial penalty to the Vietnam Football Federation after the match between Vietnam and Malaysia in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, taking place at Thien Truong Stadium on March 31.
According to the announcement announced by AFC on May 13, VFF was fined a total of 11,250 USD (nearly 300 million VND) for allowing violations related to the organization and control of spectators in this match.
AFC determined that there were fans using flares in the stands, violating Article 65. 1 of the AFC Code of Discipline and Ethics. For this act, VFF received a fine of 6,250 USD.
In addition, the Asian Football Regulatory Authority assessed that the match organizers had not fully implemented security and stadium control measures, leading to the introduction of flares into the stand area. According to Article 64. 1, VFF continued to be fined an additional 5,000 USD.
In a document posted on the homepage, AFC clearly stated that the Vietnam Football Federation must complete the payment of the fine within 30 days from the time of receiving the official notice.
The match mentioned above closed with a 3-1 victory for the Vietnamese team against Malaysia, with Duy Manh's goal and Xuan Son's double. At the end of the qualifying round, the Vietnamese team achieved a perfect record with 18 points to win a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian team was once defeated 0-3 by AFC in 2 matches against Vietnam and Nepal in the Asian Cup qualifiers due to using ineligible naturalized players.
