Vietnam national team striker Nguyen Xuan Son suffered a serious injury in the 34th minute of the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final against Thailand on January 5. After being hospitalized in Thailand and receiving initial treatment, striker Nguyen Xuan Son returned to Vietnam with the team and had a successful surgery.
Xuan Son's hospital bills in Thailand were paid by the President of the country's Football Federation, Madam Pang.
Sharing at the Southern press meeting on the afternoon of January 10, General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation - Mr. Nguyen Van Phu shared to clarify the above information.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, the fact that the organizing committee of the host country Thailand paid the hospital fees for Xuan Son is part of the general regulations of the ASEAN Cup 2024: "Regarding the general regulations of the tournament, if the players participating in the ASEAN Cup 2024 are injured during practice or competition, the team doctor will participate in first aid. If there is a serious injury, this belongs to the organizing committee, that is, the match organizer will handle it."
“It’s the same everywhere. Not only Thailand but also Vietnam. It’s something that has been trained to prepare for the tournament. The story of striker Nguyen Xuan Son being injured and hospitalized in Thailand was also handled the same way.
Before Nguyen Xuan Son, 4 players of the visiting teams playing at Viet Tri Stadium were also hospitalized in Phu Tho. The tournament organizers highly appreciated the responsibility of VFF. Thus, there was no separate intervention from Thailand. That's all the story. Thailand just did the right thing," Mr. Phu added.
The VFF General Secretary also said that since the decision to bring Xuan Son back to Vietnam for treatment, Thailand has no longer intervened in the injury of the Vietnamese national team player.
"The organizing committee of your country will provide services according to general regulations, and the VFF will coordinate with the medical staff in Vietnam to cover all expenses for Xuan Son from now until he fully recovers from his injury," Mr. Phu emphasized.
