According to Lao Dong, Vu Van Thanh and The Cong Viettel have reached a preliminary agreement and are completing the final steps before signing an official contract.
Previously, Van Thanh and the Hanoi Police Club both confirmed their intention to continue their relationship.
However, the player born in 1996 changed his decision and changed the negotiation direction with The Cong Viettel. If there is no change at the last minute, Van Thanh will be a notable rookie of the army team in the upcoming transfer period.
With a good physical foundation, speed and effective attack support, Van Thanh is considered suitable for the playing style that coach Velizar Popov is building.
Currently, The Cong Viettel owns a number of right-backs such as Vu Van Quyet, Nguyen Hong Phuc and Truong Tien Anh. However, Tien Anh could be deployed higher up the pitch, while the remaining two names will mainly play as a reserve.
Van Thanh joined Hanoi Police in early 2023 after leaving Hoang Anh Gia Lai. He contributed significantly to the 2023 V.League championship and the runner-up position at the 2024-2025 Southeast Asian Club Championship of Hanoi Police. In the last 3 seasons, the player from Hai Duong scored 7 goals and had 18 assists.
If Van Thanh officially leaves, Hanoi Police will need to add personnel on the wing, as coach Alexandre Polking currently has only Nguyen Van Duc and Pham Minh Phuc in the full-back position.
