Ahead of the AFF Cup (ASEAN Cup) 2024, teams in the Southeast Asian region have announced their official squads for the tournament. Accordingly, the website Transfermarkt has compiled statistics on the squad values of the teams.
Thailand has the most expensive squad in the AFF Cup with 7.35 million euros (about 197 billion VND). Of which, 26-year-old striker Supachok Sarachat is the most valuable in the "War Elephants" force and the 2024 AFF Cup with a value of 900,000 euros.
Not inferior to his teammates, young striker Suphanat is also valued at 800,000 euros, a figure that is much higher than many other strikers in this year's Southeast Asian championship. Possessing a squad of famous and highly rated players helps Thailand surpass Vietnam and Indonesia.
Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team finished second, just 100,000 euros behind Thailand. The “Golden Star Warriors” were valued at 7.25 million euros (about 194 billion VND) - a relatively high figure.
The highest-valued player in the Vietnamese squad is goalkeeper Nguyen Filip - 550,000 euros. Newly naturalized player Nguyen Xuan Son is second with 500,000 euros. Nguyen Hoang Duc and Pham Tuan Hai have the same price of 400,000 euros.
In addition, the value of the Malaysian team ranks third with 3.75 million (about 100 billion VND), a considerable distance from Vietnam and Thailand. The remaining teams are all valued at less than 4 million euros.
On the Indonesian side, this year, the team from the archipelago country only has a core force of young players participating in the AFF Cup 2024 with an average age of only 20.9. Therefore, the website Transfermarkt ranked Indonesia 7th with a squad value of 2.98 million euros (about 80 billion VND).
Ranking last in Southeast Asia is Timor Leste with a value of 1.16 million euros (about 31 billion VND).
The 2024 AFF Cup will kick off on December 8, 2024, and end with the final on January 5, 2025. This year's tournament will feature 10 teams, divided into two groups.
Group A includes Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia and Timor Leste. Group B includes Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar and Laos.
Coach Kim Sang-sik and his players will have their opening match against Laos on December 9. Next, the team will face Indonesia (December 15), the Philippines (December 18) and Myanmar (December 21).
