On the morning of January 6, the Vietnamese team returned home after winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup. Notably, striker Xuan Son also returned home with his teammates to undergo surgery.
At the airport, coach Kim Sang-sik handed over the ASEAN Cup gold medal to Xuan Son. The striker born in 1997 burst into tears when the Korean strategist put the medal around his neck.
Xuan Son’s joy was not complete when he had to leave the field after a serious injury in the middle of the first half of the second leg final match between Vietnam and Thailand. He fell after trying to pass the ball to his teammate. After leaving the field on a stretcher, Xuan Son was immediately taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
After determining the extent of the injury and reviewing the situation, Thai doctors allowed Xuan Son to return home for surgery at a high-class hospital in Vietnam, which is also a partner of the Vietnam Football Federation.
The 27-year-old striker needs 5-8 months to fully recover from the injury. If he recovers well, he could return to the field by the end of this year.
