On March 31, the Center for Disease Control of Binh Thuan province announced that it had just recorded another death from rabies in the area. The patient is male, born in 1977, in Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan province.
On January 25, the patient was bitten in the heel by a dog about 2 months old from his family, causing bleeding. The patient treated the wound with cold water, garlic, tamarind leaves but did not get vaccinated against rabies, did not get injected with anti-rabies serum. On March 22, the patient began to have symptoms of numbness in both feet, headache, sore throat, no fever.

By March 24, the patient had symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, agitation, fear of water, fear of wind, and inability to drink water. On the morning of March 25, the patient arrived at the health station in a state of fatigue, shortness of breath, high blood pressure, rapid pulse, was treated with oxygen, low blood pressure and transferred to Binh Thuan General Hospital.
Due to the seriousness of the disease, the patient was transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases and was diagnosed with rabies, myocarditis, and kidney damage. The results of the saliva PCR test were positive for rabies. After the family asked to take him home, the patient died on March 27.
Through investigation and verification, the dog bit 2 more people, the patient's son and a neighbor. The patient's son was injected with anti-rabies serum and rabies vaccine at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases on March 25. The neighbor was bitten and did not record any injuries, but the locality advised him to get vaccinated against rabies.
This is the second death from rabies in Binh Thuan province since the beginning of 2025.
