Currently, the Vietnam Fisheries Union (VFF) has 115 grassroots VFFs in 18/21 provinces and cities with seas with 22,318 union members with over 6,356 fishing vessels, mainly of 15 meters or more in length.
In the period of 2022-2025, the Vietnam Fisheries Commission has coordinated with the Vietnam Fisheries Association to issue a document opposing the unilateral ban on fishing in the East Sea. At the same time, provide full information for union members and fishermen to grasp and instruct union members and fishermen to take measures to protect and support each other in the process of exploiting aquatic products at sea; protest acts of obstruction, chasing, attacking, and looting fishing nets and assets of union members and fishermen of foreign forces on mass media; send documents to competent authorities such as: Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control, Consular Department, Border Guard Command, Coast Guard Command to propose strengthening support and protection for union members and fishermen in exploiting aquatic products at sea.
Monitor and synthesize recommendations from establishments on issues arising in production activities and the lives of union members and fishermen to report and propose to leaders at all levels to have appropriate instructions to promptly support union members and fishermen. At the same time, coordinate with the General Department of Fisheries (now the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control) to develop a Coordination Regulation to study regimes, policies and laws related to the legitimate and legal obligations, rights and interests of union members and fishermen; participate in developing and contributing opinions on the implementation of the 2017 Fisheries Law and Decrees and Circulars guiding its implementation, especially the amendment of documents related to policies to support fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea.
In localities, grassroots NDND have collected the opinions and difficulties and problems of fishermen and boat owners to local authorities to guide and support the procedures for enjoying support policies and regimes according to regulations such as: Fuel support, boat insurance, crew insurance, support when the boat is in distress at sea, etc. support and answer questions from union members and fishermen, thereby helping fishermen feel secure to go offshore to fish.

To contribute to taking care of union members' lives, the Vietnam Fisheries Union has issued many documents to recommend to all levels and sectors in supporting union members and their families in times of difficulties and disasters. Coordinated with the Vietnam Fisheries Humanitarian Fund and relevant agencies to support 151 cases, with an amount of 757 million VND for union members and fishermen at risk and in difficult circumstances. At the same time, mobilize support from labor federations at all levels and local authorities to create operating funds. According to statistics, during the term, 10,390 union members and fishermen were supported, and 10,715 gifts were presented to union members and fishermen in difficult circumstances on holidays, Tet, major holidays or when affected by natural disasters, accidents, etc.
