On September 15, Mr. Pham Hoai Phuong - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chairman of the Vietnam Construction Trade Union said that affiliated trade unions have coordinated with professional agencies at the same level to issue directives, develop plans and inspect member units to organize lunch meals for workers.
Up to now, in the industry, there are 568 enterprises with grassroots trade unions organizing lunch meals for workers, reaching a rate of 87.7%, of which 452 units self-organize on-site lunch meals, 18 units hire lunch meal suppliers, 68 units distribute money to workers and 30 units partially support lunch meal costs...
To achieve the above results, Vietnam Construction Trade Union levels have promoted propaganda and raised awareness of workers and employers about workers' lunch meals.
In which, propaganda about the importance, role, and benefits for all parties when implementing to improve the quality of lunch meals for workers; building and sharing models of businesses that well implement lunch meals for workers; Commending typical individuals, collectives, and businesses in this work.
Trade union levels have strengthened propaganda in many rich forms such as conferences, trade union activities, food safety and hygiene training, communication on websites, social networks and internal information channels of units.
Along with that, grassroots trade unions have proactively coordinated with businesses to dialogue and organize collective kitchens to ensure quality; participate in supervising the process of purchasing and processing food, checking the origin; periodic health checks for workers serving in the kitchen...
Collective negotiation work on the content of lunch meals is concerned and implemented, promoting dialogue, negotiation, and signing of collective labor agreements with content on lunch meals with a minimum value of 20,000-25,000 VND/portion or more for businesses located in regions I and II and from 18,000-22,000 VND/portion for businesses located in regions III and IV.
In addition to organizing lunch meals for workers, the organization of "Trade Union Meals" in 2024-2025 is being implemented synchronously in many units, attracting a large number of union members and workers to participate, creating a positive effect, contributing to enhancing the image and role of the Trade Union organization in caring for workers' lives.
According to reports from affiliated trade unions, in 2024, 24,663 union members attended trade union meals, the total amount spent on "Trade Union Meals" from grassroots trade union financial sources was 1.2 billion VND with meal value from 30,000 VND - 200,000 VND/person; in 2025, 35,316 union members attended trade union meals, the total amount spent on "Trade Union Meals" was more than 2.8 billion VND, of which expenditure from grassroots trade union financial sources was more than 1.48 billion VND, expenditure from other support sources was more than 1.34 billion VND with meal value from 30,000 VND - 300,000 VND/person.
Through the program, it is also an opportunity to affirm the role of the Trade Union organization in effectively implementing the work of caring for the material and spiritual life, towards building long-term welfare programs for union members and workers.
Through monitoring, "Trade Union Meals" received many positive signals in trade union activities and the support of the unit, were enthusiastically responded to by union members and workers, attracting a large number of union members and workers to participate; helping units, trade union organizations and union members and workers to be closer to each other, understand each other better, contributing to building a close relationship between union members and workers with the Trade Union organization and with employers. At the same time, helping workers feel secure in working, producing, and long-term attachment to the unit" - Mr. Pham Hoai Phuong said.
