On August 2, at the Center for Youth Activities and Training of Thanh Hoa province, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor held a conference to train union officials. Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - directly delivered the topics.
Improving the capacity of commune and ward union officials
According to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor, the training conference is one of the key activities in the 2025 work program, with the goal of improving the quality of the team of union officials, especially key officials at the commune and ward levels after the two-level local government model is implemented.
The training topics focus on developing leadership capacity, skills in managing grassroots trade unions, organizing trade union activities and resolving situations arising during the performance of tasks; instructions on the use of the operational management system; inspection and supervision of trade unions...
With the motto "Improving the thinking, vision and skills of trade union officials in the new situation", the conference attracted the participation of 135 key trade union officials from new communes, wards and grassroots trade unions under the province.
Mr. Vo Manh Son - Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor - said that the training content was carefully developed, closely following reality and in line with the requirements of improving the capacity of cadres in the new context. Thereby, contributing to fostering knowledge and professional skills for key union officials in newly established administrative units.
The training conference is also an opportunity for union officials to learn from experience, share difficulties during their work, thereby improving their skills in handling situations and promoting their role in the workers' movement Mr. Son emphasized.
Union officials in the new situation
At the conference, Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - conveyed key topics such as: New situation and issues facing the Vietnam Trade Union; some contents of trade union work in the new situation; trade union propaganda work.
The Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said that in the context of extensive international integration and implementation of international labor standards, Vietnam has participated in the global supply chain, where workers' rights are especially valued.
Therefore, innovating the thinking, vision and skills of trade union cadres is an urgent requirement. Strategic thinking and a broad and distant vision will help union officials orient correctly, seize opportunities and proactively respond to risks and challenges in performing their tasks.
In addition, Mr. Hieu emphasized the current situation of a part of the workforce facing many difficulties: "Many people are even more miserable than farmers, having to live in cramped rented rooms, without TVs, refrigerators, away from home, without conditions to take care of their children, and lacking spiritual life...".
To improve the material and spiritual life of workers, improving the capacity and bravery of union officials is a "key" step. Only when the staff is capable and creative can the quality of union activities be improved and workers can be better cared for.
"Along with that, social supervision and criticism is also an important task. Only when supervision is carried out closely and promptly can shortcomings in the implementation of policies be promptly detected, thereby coordinating with all levels and sectors to handle them harmoniously and in accordance with the law, protecting the legitimate rights of union members and workers" - Mr. Hieu emphasized.
