Caring for and developing union members from freelance workers
Thu Dau Mot City Labor Federation currently manages 302 grassroots unions with 23,186 union members. In 2024, the unit developed and established 3 informal unions (cosmetology, construction workers and motorbike taxi workers). The city's labor union mobilized freelance workers to understand the role and benefits of joining the union, and then 76 motorbike taxi workers, 87 construction workers, and 51 beauty workers wrote applications to join the union.
At the launching ceremony of the City Labor Federation, benefactors donated 6 million VND to each union. Each union member was provided with a uniform shirt when attending the launching ceremony and was given a gift worth 300,000 VND.
Since its inception, the City Labor Federation has considered awarding 20 scholarships worth 20 million VND to children of union members in difficult circumstances. The executive committees of the unions also regularly monitor the thoughts and activities of union members to provide timely support when union members are sick.
In the coming time, the city's trade union will continue to pay attention and care, especially during peak periods of activities such as holidays, Tet, Workers' Month... (especially during the Lunar New Year 2025). At the same time, guide the procedures for participating in health insurance, issue free health insurance cards, support legal advice for union members...
The Thu Dau Mot City Labor Federation said that with the establishment of unions, it hopes that workers in the informal sector will see this place as a support when they encounter difficulties. This will also be a place to help them stabilize their livelihoods and receive support on legal issues.
Enhancing the role of trade unions to develop union members
In Di An City, in 2024, the work of developing union members and building a strong trade union organization was focused on by the Standing Committee of the City Labor Federation and achieved remarkable results. All targets were met and exceeded the assigned targets.
Mr. Pham The Hien - Chairman of the Di An City Labor Federation said that the city has newly established 26 grassroots unions, reaching 173.3%, and admitted 7,470 new union members, reaching 135.8%. Of which, 2 grassroots unions have been established and 216 union members have been admitted to the informal labor sector (childcare unions). Currently, the city has 427 grassroots unions with 51,602 union members/55,765 workers.
The above results are thanks to the activities of the local trade union in recent years, which have been agreed upon and supported by union members and employees. The role of the trade union has been enhanced and recognized by society. Most notably, it has supported union members and employees in difficult circumstances, with serious illnesses and work-related accidents over the past time.
The work of supporting the removal of difficulties and obstacles of enterprises is also of interest to the trade unions at all levels, thereby contributing to stabilizing production and strengthening the harmonious relationship between workers and enterprises. These activities enhance the prestige of the trade union, workers want to join the trade union, and enterprises also want to have a trade union to develop the workers' movement and boost production.
“Currently, the Di An City Labor Federation is focusing resources on reviewing and developing plans to develop union members and establish grassroots unions. Special attention is paid to medium-sized enterprises that have been in operation for many years but have not yet established grassroots unions. We will continue to implement the motto of going to every alley and knocking on every enterprise to approach, propagate and mobilize union members,” said Mr. Pham The Hien, Chairman of the Di An City Labor Federation.
Ms. Nguyen Kim Loan - President of Binh Duong Provincial Federation of Labor said that in 2024, the whole province established 271 grassroots unions (including 12 trade unions), developing 116,227 union members. According to Ms. Nguyen Kim Loan, to achieve the above results, all levels of unions have made constant efforts, union officials work 10-12 hours a day.
