Determined to eliminate temporary and leaky houses

With the spirit of "leaving no one behind", Can Tho city has urgently completed the meaningful program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses and reached the finish line before April 22, 2025, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South - National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said that the results of implementing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the area since its launch (August 2024 - April 20, 2025), the total number of houses eligible for new construction and repair according to regulations is 1,066 units. Of which, 125 apartments for people with revolutionary contributions (68 newly built, 57 repaired); 941 poor apartments, near-poor households (787 newly built, 154 repaired).

The total number of houses that have been newly built and repaired and handed over to poor households, near-poor households, and households with meritorious services to the revolution is 1,066 units, reaching a rate of 100%.

Accordingly, in 2024, Can Tho has built and repaired 535 houses that have been handed over to poor and near-poor households that meet the prescribed conditions.
In 2025, approval was granted to build new and repair 531 houses and hand them over to 406 poor households, near-poor households, and 125 households with meritorious services to the revolution that meet the prescribed conditions.

As of April 20, 2025, the city has basically completed the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, near-poor households, and households with meritorious services to the revolution before April 30, 2025, in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Regarding the results of mobilizing and using resources to support the demolition of temporary and dilapidated houses, the total cost is nearly 62 billion VND. Of which, the budget from the 5% savings source for regular expenditure in 2024 is more than 16 billion VND (based on Resolution No. 159/2024/QH15 and Decision No. 559/QD-TTg dated March 10, 2025); the central budget is nearly 1.6 billion VND; socialized mobilization is nearly 41 billion VND; household contributions are more than 3 billion VND, mobilized more than 2,500 working days.

Nearly 1,500 households in Hau Giang are about to have new houses

In Hau Giang, the whole province has 1,479 households eligible for housing support. As a family supported by the State with 60 million VND to build a house, Mr. Nguyen Can Em (Tan Hung Hamlet, Nga Sau Town, Chau Thanh District) shared that in addition to supporting the implementation of procedures, the locality also mobilized relatives and socialized support for an additional 100 packs of cement. This house is the meaning and affection that everyone has for those in difficult circumstances.

As of mid-April 2025, the whole Hau Giang province has started construction and repair of 1,456 houses, accounting for 98.4%. During the implementation process, the province has mobilized many resources from units, organizations, individuals, philanthropists, communities, and relatives to receive housing support in terms of funding and working days. As a result, the province has mobilized nearly 11 billion VND, over 10,500 working days, to support families in building and repairing houses.

Mr. Dong Van Thanh - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Hau Giang province - called on businesses, organizations and individuals to continue to accompany and join hands to contribute resources and efforts to make the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province achieve the highest efficiency.

The Provincial Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Hau Giang province stated that the provincial government is committed to using support sources in a public, transparent, and appropriate manner, ensuring progress and quality of the project, helping people soon have new, spacious and safe houses.

To complete the goal of eliminating 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses before July 27, 2025, the Steering Committee of Hau Giang province recommends that units be proactive, speed up the progress of housing construction and repair, ensure time, specific roadmap, and strive for completion time earlier than the set plan.
