Ben Tre joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses to help people have stable housing

Thanks to the program "eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", many disadvantaged households in Ben Tre are no longer worried about each rainy season. The new roofs not only protect against the sun and rain but also become a solid support, helping people escape poverty and build a brighter future.

No more worries about "every rainy season"

In Ward 8, Ben Tre City, Ben Tre Province, the new house of Mr. Le Van Dong (72 years old, war invalid 1/4) is gradually being completed.

Seeing the roof covered with corrugated iron and new walls, Mr. Dong could not hide his emotions and shared: "Without the help of the government, my wife and I would still be living in a dilapidated house, every time it rains and is windy, we can only pray to heaven".

Mr. Dong said that his wife's house was built about 30 years ago. Therefore, the roof and walls have degraded and are severely damaged. Every rainy season, water floods into the house, the roof leaks, the floor is deeply flooded and muddy. The couple lived in a shabby house, without conditions to repair it, and the house continued to rot over time.

Ms. Vo Thi Bich Thuy - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ward 8 (Ben Tre City, Ben Tre Province) said: Through review, there are 20 households in the area with especially difficult circumstances, policy households, ... Up to now, the locality has had a source of funding to support 6 households. Of which, 3 houses are being completed for handover before April 30, 2025, the remaining 3 houses will be completed and handed over before June 30, 2025.

According to Ms. Thuy, there are 14 households with difficult housing circumstances but do not have a source of support funding. The locality is mobilizing people, philanthropists, and benefactors to join hands to contribute to the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for these households.

"Not only stopping at supporting money to build houses, the locality also mobilizes organizations such as the Fatherland Front, youth, militia, women's unions, unions... to participate in building, from foundation work, material transportation to completing the house. Thereby, saving costs and helping people have more spacious places to live," said Ms. Thuy.

Towards the goal of "no one is left behind"

Since the beginning of 2025, the program "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in Ben Tre province has built and completed 298 houses. Currently, there are 532 houses under construction, for meritorious households, poor and near-poor households.

Ms. Dang Thi Phuong, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ben Tre province, said that in 2025, the province aims to build and repair 2,101 houses for meritorious households, poor households, near-poor households and households in difficult circumstances.

As a center of national solidarity, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ben Tre province has actively called for the participation of organizations, individuals, and enterprises inside and outside the province, contributing 27.6 billion VND to build and repair 460 houses for households in difficult circumstances.

Ms. Dang Thi Phuong emphasized that the program of "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" is not simply a matter of " giving a roof", but also a message of confidence, arousing the spirit of rising up in each citizen. Ms. Phuong hopes that after having a house, people will have more motivation to escape poverty sustainably.
