Grassroots trade unions get involved, taking care of disadvantaged workers

In Ho Chi Minh City, the old Binh Duong area, the Area Management Working Groups under the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation have stabilized the apparatus and are stepping up activities to care for union members and workers in difficult circumstances.

Stabilizing the apparatus

Area Management Working Group No. 9 of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation directly directs trade union activities at 15 commune-level administrative units, with a total of 815 grassroots trade unions.

Recently, the Working Group has worked with 15 commune and ward unions including: Ben Cat, Chanh Phu Hoa, Thoi Hoa, Tay Nam, Long Nguyen, Bau Bang, Tru Van Tho, Phu Giao, Phuoc Hoa, Phuoc Thanh, An Long, Long Hoa, Thanh An, Dau Tieng, Minh Thanh.

The working group grasped the personnel and facilities of commune and ward trade unions. At the meeting, representatives of the commune and ward trade unions reported on the situation of organizational structure, personnel work, facilities and clearly stated the difficulties and problems. At the same time, propose and recommend important issues to help trade union activities at the grassroots level become more effective in the coming time.

The Area Management Working Group No. 9 has guided and oriented a number of key contents related to the mechanism for managing and using union seals and financial accounts.

In addition, guiding the coordination with unions to mobilize, propagate, and protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers and laborers.

The working group also guided units to complete personnel plans, arrange working facilities, and at the same time requested units to pay attention to coordinating the survey to establish grassroots trade unions. Special attention is paid to workers who are freelance workers, aiming to establish unions ( motorbike taxi drivers, lottery ticket sellers, etc.).

Currently, all communes and wards have advised the Party Committee to appoint a list of comrades in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, and the positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of communes and wards. We are working with the Trade Unions of communes and wards to plan activities from now until the end of the year, focusing on developing union members and establishing grassroots unions" - Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Kim Loan - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, Head of the Area Management Working Group No. 8 - also directly worked with the trade unions of 13 wards in the old Thu Dau Mot and Tan Uyen city areas including: Thu Dau Mot, Phu Loi, Chanh Hiep, Binh Duong, Hoa Loi, Phu An, Binh Co, Tan Uyen, Tan Hiep, Tan Khanh, Vinh Tan, Bac Tan Uyen, Thuong Tan.

The unit has instructed the Trade Unions of communes and wards to quickly stabilize the apparatus and put it into operation. In Binh Duong ward, the ward Party Committee held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish the ward Trade Union.

Strengthening care for disadvantaged workers

In Ben Cat area, the Ward Trade Union coordinated with the Area Management Working Group No. 9 to review and grasp the living conditions of workers and laborers. The working group presented 100 gifts to union members and workers in difficult circumstances on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation - said: "In the coming time, the Area Management Working Group No. 9 will continue to support 1,700 gifts (each worth 1 million VND), given to workers by bank transfer".

In addition to the above program, the Working Group is coordinating with the Trade Unions of communes, wards and grassroots trade unions to organize the "Union Meal" program for workers. Thereby, contributing to taking care of the quality of meals, building solidarity, attachment, and sharing between workers and employers and the Trade Union organization.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Kim Loan - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, Head of the Area Management Working Group No. 8 - is implementing the giving of 1,140 gifts to workers in difficult circumstances. Of which, 240 gifts were given to female workers (each worth 500,000 VND in cash, 1 voucher for general health check-ups and necessities). In addition, 900 gifts were presented to union members and workers in difficult circumstances (each worth 2.1 million VND). The unit also coordinated to award 300 scholarships, worth 2.1 million VND/scholarship to students who are children of workers.

Commune and ward trade unions approach the grassroots, support workers

Recent records show that the Commune and Ward Trade Unions, immediately after stabilizing the apparatus, have immediately implemented activities to care for union members at the grassroots level. In Binh Duong ward, the Ward Trade Union coordinated with Working Group No. 8 to organize the "Bright Coffee" program to meet and discuss with grassroots trade union officials; organize visits and support workers in difficulty; and coordinate with the grassroots trade union to organize "Union Meals" at enterprises. In particular, at Foster Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. (VSIP II Industrial Park), the program brought 750 meals and presented 10 gifts to workers in difficult circumstances.
