The Da Nang City Labor Federation (DOLF) spent more than 18 billion VND to support 9,300 union members and workers affected by the recent floods.

More than 9,300 union members suffered losses

The recent historic and prolonged flood caused heavy damage to union members and workers of the Da Nang Trade Union. According to statistics from the Da Nang City Labor Federation, up to this point, 9,300 union members and workers have been affected and damaged by floods. The main damaged cases are flooded houses, damaged equipment, household items and motorbikes that cannot be repaired.

"This is an incomplete statistic because up to this point, there are still many union members and workers in areas deeply flooded by grassroots unions who cannot access them. If it were complete, we think the number should be more than 10,000 people" - Mr. Le Van Dai, Permanent Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation said.

Since October 29, when the flood was still very severe, the Da Nang City Labor Federation has issued a plan to support union members and workers affected by floods and visited and encouraged the functional forces on duty to support the people. In which, for union members and workers who suffered losses, the City Labor Federation supported each person with 2 million VND (according to Decision 1411/QD-TLD). For the visit and encouragement of the on-duty force, the Da Nang City Labor Federation supported 3 million VND/point. The total budget that the Da Nang City Labor Federation has spent to support union members affected by floods to date is 18.6 billion VND.

This support has brought a lot of warmth and great encouragement to union members and workers. In nearly 20 years of working as a worker, whenever I encountered difficulties or problems, the first place I thought of was the Trade Union. The gifts from the organization are very warm and full of sharing with our workers" - Ms. Le Thi My, a worker at 29/3 Textile Joint Stock Company confided.

Sharing difficulties with businesses

Not only supporting union members and workers affected, this time the Da Nang City Labor Federation also organized visits and encouragement to businesses affected by floods in Da Nang City (most of which are businesses operating in industrial parks of the old Quang Nam province) to encourage and share difficulties and quickly stabilize the production and business situation.

For each enterprise, the Da Nang City Labor Federation will provide support in the amount of 5 million VND in cash and a gift in kind. The Da Nang City Labor Federation will organize a delegation to visit and encourage a number of businesses affected by floods. At the same time, authorizate the Commune and Ward Trade Unions to organize visits and encourage enterprises with grassroots trade unions assigned to manage. This amount of money and gifts is not too large for businesses, but it is the heart and sharing of the Trade Union organization for businesses in difficult times due to natural disasters and epidemics affecting production and business. This is also a way for the Trade Union to accompany businesses to take care of their lives and create jobs for workers" - Mr. Le Van Dai said.

The way it was done, the quick response of the City Labor Federation received positive feedback, highly appreciated by workers, business owners and leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

On behalf of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, I highly appreciate the timely participation of trade union organizations at all levels in Da Nang to support and care not only for union members and workers. A handful when hungry is equal to a package when full. The gifts and sincere words of encouragement at times like these for workers, business owners, and people's support will give warmth and strength so that everyone can overcome difficulties together" - Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, spoke in Da Nang on the afternoon of November 4, during a visit and presented of support gifts from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to union members and workers in flooded areas.

Sedo Vinako spends more than 15 billion VND to support workers in flooded areas

Faced with heavy damage caused by floods in recent days, Sedo Vinako Company Limited (Dong Yen Industrial Cluster, Da Nang City) has decided to allocate more than 15 billion VND to support affected workers and laborers.

According to Sedo Vinako's leader, the whole company currently has more than 5,000 workers and laborers. The recent flood caused water to flood into the factory area, damaging many equipment and goods and disrupting production activities. At the same time, many workers of the enterprise also suffered great losses when their houses were deeply flooded and their property was damaged.

Immediately after the water receded, the staff and workers urgently cleaned, cleared mud, repaired machinery, replaced equipment and restored production. Despite many difficulties, Sedo Vinako's leadership still decided to support 3 million VND/person, to share the burden and encourage workers to soon stabilize their lives. The total amount of support is more than 15 billion VND. Nguyen Hoang
