On November 6, a commander of the shock Brigade of the 61st Regiment, the 68th Mechanical Arms Division, said that the Zapad force is expected to complete control of the city of Kupyansk within 1 week. The commander, nicknamed Lavrik, said his unit was conducting a mission to control areas in the city.
In a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry, he said the unit had cleared 25 buildings in the last day. In the western Kupyansk region, Russian soldiers advanced along three streets and took control of 16 buildings.
On Pervaya Zapadnaya Street alone, they occupied 9 houses, 4 houses on Levadny Vyezd Street and 3 houses on Sinkovskaya Street. The accompanying coordinating units also made progress when controlling 9 more buildings at a feed factory.
According to him, Russian forces are continuing to advance on the right bank of the river and there are about 130 buildings that have not been controlled. He affirmed the high military spirit and believed that the mission would be completed within the prescribed time.
Kupyansk is considered an important logistics and transit hub of Ukraine in the east, playing a big role in transporting goods and supporting forces in the Kharkiv region.
