Connecting the community, keeping the boarding house peaceful
At the end of August, the Hai Van Ward Trade Union, Da Nang City held a conference to announce the decision to establish the Xuan Thieu 1 Residential Area Self-managed Workers' Group, Hai Van Ward with 220 workers participating in activities. The Executive Board consists of 10 members, expected to become a "locomotive" connecting workers, promptly grasping their thoughts and aspirations, and closely coordinating with the ward union, government and functional forces to take care of their lives as well as ensure security and order in the area.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Van Dai - Permanent Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation - praised the mobilization efforts of the Hai Van Ward Labor Union. He emphasized that the self-managed workers' group is a model of "Skilled Mass Mobilization" that has been commended by the Da Nang City Party Committee, and needs to continue to be expanded, because this is an "extended arm" of the Trade Union organization to workers residing in boarding houses.
On the occasion of the launch, the City Labor Federation presented a mobile car for the group to have a place to live and 10 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND to workers in difficult circumstances. Along with that is a propaganda program on security, order, crime prevention and control right in Xuan Thieu 1 residential area, helping workers equip themselves with knowledge, raise vigilance and build a civilized lifestyle.
Not only Hai Van ward, many other localities in Da Nang have previously established dozens of Self-management groups over the years. According to statistics, up to now, the City Labor Federation is managing 71 groups with more than 11,200 workers. This is the foundation to ensure a peaceful life for workers far from home, while strengthening the belief in the role of the Trade Union at the grassroots level.
Extended arm of the Trade Union organization
The model of "Self-managed workers in boarding houses" has been implemented in Da Nang since 2010, associated with the context of the city being a destination for tens of thousands of workers from other provinces. The formation and development of the model is not simply a movement activity, but is essentially a creative and effective way for the Trade Union organization in mass mobilization work, protecting the rights of union members and workers.
Over the past 15 years, Trade Unions at all levels have organized over 500 direct propaganda sessions at groups with more than 50,000 workers attending, with content ranging from the Labor Code, Trade Union Law, Social Insurance Law, Health Insurance to drug prevention and control, crimes, social evils, traffic safety, fire prevention and fighting. These activities both provide legal knowledge and create a space for exchange and connection between workers far from home, helping them have a spiritual support in a life full of difficulties.
In particular, the Self-management Teams are also an important "eyed" to promptly detect and report violations of the law, coordinate with local police to prevent crimes, and maintain order in the boarding house. Many workers share that, thanks to the Self-management Team, they can rest assured to "only work and make a living" without worrying too much about security and order.
At the same time, the Self-management Team also actively participates in social movements launched by the locality such as "Eliminate hunger and reduce poverty", " use gratitude", or respond to the model of "Rental housing without crime and social evils". Each boarding house has its own regulations, mobilizing workers to "Self-management - Self-defense - Self-protection", building a safe and healthy community.
This model has increasingly proven effective in many aspects: Supporting residential management, ensuring security and order, raising legal awareness, caring for the material and spiritual life of workers. More importantly, this is a bridge for the voices and aspirations of workers from other provinces to be listened to and promptly reflected to all levels of the Trade Union and the government.
From the event of establishing the Xuan Thieu 1 Boarding House Self-management Workers' Group in Hai Van Ward, it can be seen that the Da Nang Trade Union is continuing to affirm its pioneering role in accompanying, caring for and protecting workers. The model of "Self-managed Workers' Group" not only helps workers have a spiritual support, contributing to maintaining urban peace, but also creates trust, affirming the strength of the workers' movement and the Trade Union organization in the new context.
