According to the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology (KHCN), in the past time, grassroots trade unions directly under it have coordinated with professional levels to ensure the implementation of the regime of supervision and inspection of labor safety and hygiene, industrial waste treatment, environmental protection and promote the network of safety and hygiene workers.
Grassroots trade unions coordinate with professional departments to organize periodic inspections, participate in supervising the compliance with regulations on occupational safety and health (OSH), coordinate to inspect the working environment, the implementation of measures to prevent unsafety risks right from the grassroots level and regimes and policies for workers.
At the same time, maintain and promote the role of the safety and hygiene network at the grassroots level to promptly detect early dangers and unsafe behaviors and propose remedial measures. In which, focus on regulations on implementing safety regulations; equip personal protective equipment; improve working conditions; prevent the risk of work accidents. Inspections are maintained regularly once a month for trade union groups, once every 3 months for member grassroots trade unions and once every 6 months for grassroots trade unions. Organize well training classes on handling, coordination, support, and rescue plans when natural disasters, fires or occupational safety incidents occur for safety and hygiene are organized regularly, the contents are specific, detailed, multi-situation and realistic.
The Science and Technology Trade Union affirmed that the movement has created positive changes in the awareness and actions of union members and workers and created positive impacts at three levels.
For workers: raise awareness of the right to work in a safe environment; increase the ability to identify and reflect risks; encourage initiatives to improve working conditions; form awareness of environmental protection and daily safety practices.
For businesses, agencies, and units: contributing to building a scientific, safe, and clean working environment; preventing incidents; saving costs and improving the efficiency of energy and material use through workers' initiatives.
For trade union organizations: the movement creates a substantive channel for trade unions to perform the function of representing, supervising, participating in management, dialogue and mobilizing union members and workers.
