Trade union awards "fishing rod
In the early afternoon of January 2026, the Lao Cai Ward Trade Union delegation visited the family of Ms. Doan Thi Loan, a poor household in Coc Lay Residential Group. The meeting opened up a practical livelihood support direction, showing the role of the Trade Union in the "Skillful Mass Mobilization" and sustainable poverty reduction movement.
Ms. Loan's family is in particularly difficult circumstances. Her husband died early, she alone raises two young children, has no stable job, mainly income from seasonal labor, averaging only about 2 million VND/month. The family's biggest asset is the allocated forest land area, but it has been vacant for many years due to lack of capital and crop varieties.
After directly surveying the reality, listening to the thoughts and aspirations of the family, the Lao Cai Ward Trade Union agreed to build a "Skillful Mass Mobilization" model to support Ms. Loan's livelihood by donating about 5,000 grease seedlings. This is identified as a long-term solution, helping her family gradually plant forests and create a stable source of income in the future.
According to Mr. Dang Nguyen Hoan - Chairman of Lao Cai Ward Trade Union, supporting seedlings is not only meaningful in the short term but also demonstrates the responsibility of the Trade Union organization in accompanying people to overcome difficulties.
We hope that each support model will help people have sustainable livelihoods, thereby rise out of poverty and stabilize their lives" - Mr. Hoan emphasized.
Receiving support, Ms. Doan Thi Loan emotionally said that this is a great source of encouragement for her family to have more faith and will to rise up.
Having "clams" now, my family will try to take care of and plant forests well to gradually overcome difficulties and rise up in life" - Ms. Loan expressed.
Movement spreads throughout the highlands
Over the past time, the trade unions of communes and wards have proactively coordinated with the government and socio-political organizations to support union members, workers and households in difficult circumstances with specific ways suitable to the conditions of each locality.
In highland communes such as: Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai, Bat Xat, Muong Khuong, many livelihood support models have been implemented such as: Supporting forestry seedlings, livestock breeds; helping capital to rotate; supporting housing for Trade Union Shelters; introducing jobs for workers in difficult circumstances. Instead of short-term support, trade union levels have shifted to supporting "fishing rods", helping people have conditions to work, produce, and create their own income.
The common point in these models is to take people as the center, stemming from the actual needs of each household. Before supporting, trade union officials directly go to the grassroots level to survey and grasp the situation, thereby choosing the most appropriate form of support, avoiding spreading and formality.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Nhiem - Chairwoman of Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation - shared that the emulation movement "Skillful Mass Mobilization" has been and is being concretized by practical actions, associated with the task of caring for the lives of union members, workers and people. Effective models not only help people escape poverty but also contribute to strengthening people's trust in the Trade Union organization.
In the coming time, trade union levels in the province will continue to review and select households in difficult circumstances but with the will to rise up to build suitable livelihood support models; and at the same time monitor and guide throughout the implementation process, contributing to the effective implementation of the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and socio-economic development in the locality.
From specific, silent but responsible actions, the "Skillful Mass Mobilization" movement of Lao Cai Trade Union is gradually spreading, becoming a solid support for the poor and vulnerable to rise up and stabilize their lives.
