The union has helped us have a true house
Along with the common joy of the whole country celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day on September 2, the family of Ms. Do Thuy Lien, Cao Thanh Kindergarten (Hanoi) also had their own joy in a spacious house - a dream for many years.
Ms. Lien is a preschool teacher with a limited salary. Her husband is a freelancer with an unstable income. Every February, the couple only has about 11 million VND to raise 2 young children, one of whom is 5 years old and the other is 4 months older. Her whole family used to have to stay at relatives' houses because they could not afford to build a house. The dream of a solid, private house for a small family was a distant dream for Lien and her husband.
Understanding that situation, the Trade Union of Cao Thanh Kindergarten proposed that the City Labor Federation support the construction of a Trade Union Shelter. After being approved, the school's Trade Union continued to accompany Ms. Lien's family in making designs, estimates, selecting construction units and supervising the progress of the project.
Thanks to that, the new house was completed on time, spacious and cozy, becoming a spiritual support for the whole Lien family. When coming to give support to Ms. Lien's family, along with the indescribable congratulations and joy of Ms. Lien's family, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy - Vice President of the Hanoi City Labor Federation - could not hide her emotions and said: "This house is not only a material support, but also a great source of spiritual encouragement from the Trade Union organization. We hope that Ms. Lien will continue to work with peace of mind, complete her assigned tasks well and have an increasingly stable family life. That is the emotion and joy of the union cadres when witnessing the difficult situation of their union members, who used to have to stay abroad, now have a place to settle down.
As for Ms. Lien, she trembled and shared her gratitude for the deep attention of the Trade Union at all levels. I am truly grateful for this valuable support. Thanks to the Trade Union Shelter program, my family has the conditions to build a truly house, no longer worrying about housing, this is the motivation to help me work with peace of mind and take care of my children" - Ms. Lien said. Along with the 40 million VND to support the construction of the Trade Union Shelter, the Hanoi City Labor Federation also presented gifts to new employees, so that the joy of union members could be multiplied...
From the beginning of the year to November 10, 2025, the Hanoi City Labor Federation has handed over 31 Trade Union Shelters with a total amount of VND 1,150,000,000, including 22 newly built Trade Union Shelters with an amount of VND 880,000,000, and 9 repaired Trade Union Shelters with an amount of VND 270,000,000. The implementation of the Trade Union Shelter program of the Hanoi City Labor Federation has supported union members and workers to overcome difficulties in life, work with peace of mind when having a solid roof, without having to worry about houses collapsing or leaking.
The awarding of support for the Trade Union Shelter was carried out promptly by the Trade Unions at all levels, meeting the needs and aspirations of union members and workers with difficult housing circumstances.
The joy of receiving support to build the Trade Union Shelter also came to Mr. Dang Van Hoan, a worker at An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower Company in mid-October. The Trade Union Shelter of union member Dang Van Hoan started construction in July 2025 and was completed after more than 3 months of construction.
The house has an area of 120m2, built solidly and spaciously with a total cost of 520 million VND. Of which, the Vietnam Electricity Trade Union supported 60 million VND, the rest was contributed by family and relatives. The emotion of Mr. Hoan and his family was not only that the leaders of the Trade Unions at all levels and the company created favorable conditions to help and support the family to have a dream house, but also that the Trade Union of Power Generation Corporation 2 presented some essential household items, contributing to helping the family stabilize their lives. This shows the deep concern of the Trade Union for union members and workers.
It is known that in the Workers' Month in 2025 alone, Vietnam Electricity Trade Unions at all levels supported 24 Trade Union Shelters, with a total amount of 740 million VND (the amount of support is at least 30 million VND/house and the highest is 60 million VND/house).
The fact that Vietnam Electricity Trade Union at all levels supports the construction of Union Shelters for families of union members and workers in difficult circumstances is a practical and important matter, demonstrating the concern of the government and trade union organizations at all levels in caring for workers, thereby contributing to encouraging workers to overcome difficulties, enthusiastically work in production, contributing intelligence and strength to the overall development of the Vietnam Electricity Trade Union - Mr. Uong Quang Huy - Vice Chairman of Vietnam Electricity Trade Union - spoke with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter.
Great solidarity houses provide housing for the poor
The Trade Union Shelter Program is a social security activity launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 2006 to support union members and workers with difficult housing circumstances. The program helps build and repair houses for workers, contributing to stabilizing life and realizing the dream of settling down, while demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and mutual love of the Trade Union organization.
From 2020 - 2025, the Trade Union Shelter Award Program has deployed and supported the construction of 10,508 new houses, repaired 3,175 houses in the Trade Union Shelter with a total support amount of over 543 billion VND. In Workers' Month 2025 (May 2025), Vietnam Trade Unions at all levels supported union members and workers with 1,010 Trade Union Shelters (built new, repaired) with a total amount of more than 24 billion VND.
Not only taking care of housing for union members and workers through the Trade Union Shelter Program, Trade Unions at all levels also actively participate and provide support to build solidarity houses for poor, near-poor households and families in difficult circumstances through financial contributions, material support or support for working days.
As a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has promptly implemented in response to the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025". The program demonstrates the affection and cooperation of the Trade Union organization and the whole society to help poor, near-poor households and those in especially difficult circumstances have stable housing. Thereby contributing to spreading the spirit of solidarity and mutual love.
