After the restructuring and streamlining of the apparatus, Son La Trade Union has gone through a extensive restructuring process. The number of affiliated unions dissolved and merged is large, personnel is greatly reduced, and the scale of the organization has changed. However, it is worth noting that although the apparatus is streamlined, the work of caring for the lives and protecting the rights of workers is not only not interrupted but also promoted and becomes more substantial.
Ms. Thai Thi Mai - Head of the Trade Union Working Committee (under the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son La province) said that the Son La Trade Union Working Committee is currently directly managing 184 grassroots trade union organizations with over 12,400 union members and there are no grassroots trade union organizations at the commune and ward levels as well as grassroots trade unions of other socio-political organizations. Meanwhile, the Son La Trade Union Working Committee has only 11 cadres and employees.
Faced with the above situation, immediately after the establishment of the Trade Union Working Committee, we assigned cadres and civil servants to advise and manage each field in accordance with their capacity, strengths and professional qualifications.
"Each board leader is in charge of 6-8 areas and is responsible for grasping the operation of the trade union organization, guiding the implementation of tasks, reviewing and upgrading some member trade unions to grassroots trade unions and perfecting the Executive Committee, Standing Committee and Inspection Committee of the new grassroots trade unions" - Ms. Mai said.
The Son La Trade Union Working Committee focuses on two main tasks: caring for and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and employees and propagating the development of union members, establishing grassroots unions in enterprises with 15 or more employees.
According to Head of the Son La Trade Union Working Committee Thai Thi Mai, one of the important highlights is that the Son La Trade Union has allocated resources saved from streamlining the apparatus to reinvest in grassroots activities. Focus on supporting union members and workers in difficult circumstances, while improving the quality of dialogue, collective bargaining, organizing emulation movements for production labor, and taking care of workers' social security.
Many practical support programs have been maintained such as building "Union Shelters", giving gifts to union members in difficult circumstances, supporting workers in work accidents, serious illnesses, etc. Hundreds of union members belonging to poor households and ethnic minorities in remote areas have received timely attention from the union organization, thereby helping them reduce their burdens in life.
In addition, Trade Unions at all levels actively coordinate with authorities and employers to promote periodic dialogue and collective bargaining. Many collective labor agreements have been signed, ensuring salary, bonus, shift meals, and labor protection. The emulation movements "Good workers - Creative workers" continue to be maintained, encouraging workers to improve productivity and promote initiatives.
It can be affirmed that although the apparatus has been streamlined, the conditions of the area is large, many remote and highland areas, the Son La Trade Union staff is still steadfast in the goal of "not leaving any union members behind".
