On July 6, Hiep Phuoc Commune Trade Union (HCMC) coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of the commune and the Commune Youth Union to organize the groundbreaking ceremony of "Trade Union Home" for union member Ho Thai Duong - a worker living in the area.
Mr. Duong's family has 5 members, both husband and wife are workers with income just enough to cover living expenses and raise young children. In the period 2021-2023, his family was considered a near-poor household in the locality.
The prefabricated house, about 48m2 wide, built in 2012, is currently heavily damaged. Due to lack of repair conditions, for many years, the couple has had to live in a dilapidated house, life is not without hardship. Faced with the above situation, the Hiep Phuoc Commune Trade Union has coordinated with units to mobilize resources to support the construction of a new house for Mr. Duong's family. The total cost of the project is 75 million VND.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Kieu - Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hiep Phuoc commune, Chairwoman of the Commune Trade Union, the project is a practical activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh City honored to be named after President Ho Chi Minh, and at the same time demonstrates the role of the Trade Union organization in caring for the lives of union members and workers.
Ms. Kieu said that a solid shelter not only helps improve living conditions but also creates motivation for workers to feel secure in sticking with the business, stabilizing their lives and raising their children. Each "Trade Union Shelter" is also the joint effort of the Trade Union organization, government, businesses and the community in accompanying and supporting union members in difficult circumstances.
