The National Day holiday of September 2nd lasts many days, but many workers at construction sites in Hanoi still register to stay to work during the holiday.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (24 years old, from Phu Tho) is a concrete worker at a construction site in Thanh Liet ward (Hanoi).

According to Mr. Tuan, the company allows workers to register early from August 10th regarding the work schedule for the National Day holiday September 2nd, those who need it can have holidays from Sunday, August 30th to the end of Wednesday, September 2nd; those who register will go to work throughout the holiday, the work schedule is shift-based like normal days. The salary for working during the holiday is publicly announced: September 2nd is 3 times higher than normal days, the remaining days are double the normal days.

A few days of overtime during holidays have an income equal to nearly half a month of work, I and many colleagues register to work to have more income, both to cover living expenses and to save and accumulate in case of illness, worrying about the future," Mr. Tuan said.

Calculated, if I work full shifts on holidays, the wages earned are almost half a month's normal salary. I am not married, so I am not burdened with children's matters. My parents in the countryside are farmers, and I have a younger sister who is in 12th grade this year. Every month I deduct a sum to send back to help the family. The additional income from this period of working through holidays, I send a little back to my parents to take care of my sister at the beginning of the new school year, and the rest is put into my savings account as capital for self-defense," Mr. Tuan added.

Tran Van Nam (34 years old, from Ninh Binh) is a steel structure worker. Mr. Nam has been attached to the construction site for nearly 10 years. His wife is a garment worker in her hometown, earning about 7 million VND/month. Mr. Nam has 1 daughter preparing to enter 4th grade.

During the September 2nd holiday, although he really wanted to visit his family, thinking about many expenses for his children during the new school year and the debt after building the house, Mr. Nam decided to stay to work during the holidays.

Every parent wants to stay home with their children on holidays, but economic pressure does not allow it. This time, the project is entering a hurried stage to complete the progress, the company is calling on brothers to register to work through holidays with good benefits, so I immediately take shifts. Working full days during this holiday, I have a total income and bonus of about 8 million VND," Mr. Nam revealed.

Sharing about the expenses from extra work during holidays, Mr. Nam said that in addition to sending money to his wife, he will buy his child a used computer so that he can get used to the computer and learn English online as his child has long dreamed.

Staying to work this time, although it's hard, but my children have more conditions to study like their peers, I think it's worth it," Mr. Nam shared.
