Lao Cai - Vimico Copper Branch is currently managing 2 Copper Brewing Plants 1 (located in Tang Loong Industrial Park, Bao Thang District) and 2 Copper Brewing Plants (located in Ban Qua Commune, Bat Xat District). The entire branch has over 1,100 workers working in the workshops.
Mr. Phan A Minh, H'Mong ethnic group in Den Thanh commune, Bat Xat district, shared that in the past, to go to the mining area located deep underground, workers had to walk nearly half a kilometre. Recently, the workshop has invested in a mechanical system to transport and pick up workers to and from the exploitation area, contributing to ensuring safety and health for workers.
"According to the company's regulations, if there is not enough labor protection when starting a shift, they will not be allowed to work. We are also more aware of protecting our own safety when working at a depth of hundreds of meters, said Mr. Minh.
Mr. Mac Van Tien, Director of the lo 1 Exploitation Workshop, said: Currently, the workshop has 250 workers, of which over 90% are ethnic minorities. Since 2024, the company has put into operation a system of carriages to transport workers up and down (instead of having to walk down the mine). Thereby, ensuring safety and reducing the effort of workers working here.
According to Mr. Tien, mining in the mine is a arduous, toxic and dangerous job. Some of the main risks are hanging soil and rocks falling on people and sliding when traveling, especially the risk of suffocation during production due to toxic gas generated during blasting. Therefore, the workshop must take ventilation measures and quickly dispers the toxic gas in the working area.
Every year, the workshop organizes occupational safety training for workers 5 times according to regulations. In particular, focusing on technical guidance when the unit organizes the construction of the new work; updating labor safety regulations as well as labor protection movements so that workers can grasp and implement them. In addition, in coordination with the Lao Cai Center for Disease Control, it organizes periodic health check-ups and occupational disease detection examinations for workers.
In addition, we are implementing a shift diet of nearly 70,000 VND/person/ shift; basically meeting nutritional needs, as well as contributing to recovering workers' health after work, said Mr. Tien.
Mr. Vu Duc Huong, Deputy Head of Division of Moderation, pitching workshop also said: The camera is installed in all locations, from the ground to the production area in the pit to monitor the production process of workers and workers. When abnormal detection, the duty department will call the production area, notify workers in the dangerous area to the safe location and take measures to thoroughly remedy risks.
According to Mr. Vu Duc Huong, focusing on ensuring labor safety in exploitation helps the company limit unfortunate accidents, while helping workers feel secure in sticking with the unit.
At about 2:15 a.m. on June 15, 2024, at the Mining and Mining Workshop of Mining and Mining Workshop 2, Sin Quyen - Vimico Copper Mining Branch, a group of 5 workers were drilling and blasting when suddenly rocks fell from the mines.
