Learn a trade to change the way you do things
In Kiu village, Phu Yen commune, Mr. Sa Van Nguyen started raising field crabs after being instructed on aquaculture techniques. From only producing based on experience, he boldly tried a new direction. Field crabs are currently sold at about 130,000 VND/kg, contributing to the family's income.
Mr. Nguyen's story partly shows the effectiveness of bringing technology closer to people. From 2025 to now, nearly 2,500 rural workers in Phu Yen have participated in 8 short-term vocational training classes. The content is quite close to local livelihoods, from cultivation, animal husbandry to industrial sewing, mechanics, construction and production techniques.
Not only learning a trade, farmers are also guided on new farming methods in the fields. Nearly 300 people were trained in organic rice production; nearly 800 farmers participated in 23 SRI application classes; 1,780 people were consulted on seeds and organic fertilizers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thinh - Director of Phu Yen Commune General Service Center - said that the training content is selected based on actual needs, focusing on ethnic minority workers, poor households, near-poor households and policy beneficiaries.
Work near home, proactive for workers
At Phu Yen Shoe Factory, about 2,400 workers are working, of which more than 30% are local people. Ms. Dinh Thi Men has been attached to the job for more than 10 years. After a period of vocational training, she has a stable job with an income of about 8-9 million VND/month.
The job is suitable for health, ability, and close to home, so it is convenient to maintain income and take care of the family" - Ms. Men shared.
From 2025 to now, more than 1,000 students and workers in Phu Yen have participated in counseling and job connection programs; more than 400 people have been recruited or trained. From the beginning of 2026 alone, 496 workers have new jobs.
Currently, about 15,200 local workers are working at businesses, production facilities, businesses and cooperatives inside and outside the province, with an income of about 7-25 million VND/person/month.
These figures show that the job market is expanding more for rural workers, from local jobs to businesses in other localities.
Going abroad to find higher income opportunities
For a part of young workers, going to work abroad becomes an option to improve income.
Currently, 157 Phu Yen workers are working in Japan, Korea, Taiwan (China), Germany, Russia, Belarus, Laos and China, with an income of about 20-50 million VND/person/month.
Ms. Luu Thi Hue, sub-area 2, Phu Yen commune, is preparing to go to Korea under the agricultural seasonal labor program. Before leaving the country, she was instructed on rights, responsibilities, working conditions and learning Korean.
Since the beginning of the year, 16 local workers have registered for this program, of which 5 people have met the conditions, completed procedures and are preparing to leave the country.
Phu Yen has more than 46,300 people, of which 23,064 are of working age.
From vocational training classes, production lines right in the locality to the journey to foreign labor markets, the job choices of Phu Yen people are increasingly diverse. This is also the basis for the locality to continue to increase the rate of trained workers to over 60% by 2030, linking training with recruitment needs and actual livelihoods.
