Not afraid to invest to improve personal capacity
Not only improving specialized knowledge, many young people are willing to spend millions of VND to learn soft skills, foreign languages, artificial intelligence (AI) or build personal brands to enhance competitive advantages when looking for work.
As a final year student majoring in Communications, Ms. Nguyen Khanh Huyen (22 years old, Hanoi) has spent nearly 15 million VND in the past year to study courses on presentation, personal brand building and AI application.
I see that many employers not only ask about qualifications but also care about communication skills, situation handling, or how to apply technology to work. Therefore, I actively learn more to be more confident when going on internships and interviews," Ms. Huyen shared.
Thanks to the accumulated skills, Ms. Huyen is more confident when participating in practical activities and recruitment interviews.
Working in the field of marketing, Mr. Ngo Minh Quan (24 years old, Hanoi) also regularly spends a portion of his income to participate in courses on content creation, data analysis and digital marketing.
Each course helps me add a new skill. There are skills that seem unrelated but are very helpful in daily work, and at the same time open up more career development opportunities," Mr. Quan said.
Mr. Quan believes that proactively updating new skills helps himself better meet the increasingly high requirements of work.
Choose the right skills to invest effectively
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, AI expert Vu Thanh Thang - Chairman of AIZ development unit - said that workers should not see AI as a threat, but should consider it as a tool to improve working capacity. According to him, the important thing is to promote creative, thinking and personal values - mechanical factors that are difficult to replace.
With the current development speed of AI, in the next few years, almost every field will be affected and replaced. I do not use the concept of "job loss" because it implies that workers no longer have a job to do. In fact, AI will create a shift, forcing workers to adapt and switch to jobs with higher value," AI expert Vu Thanh Thang said.
Experts believe that industries such as translation, some jobs in the field of law, education, etc. will be strongly affected by AI. Therefore, workers need to proactively upgrade their skills to do jobs beyond AI's capabilities.
According to Mr. Do Ngoc Son - Director of ST Lighthouse Soft Skills Academy, the fact that more and more young people actively invest in learning skills shows that awareness of career development has changed. In the context of technology, especially AI, developing rapidly, professional knowledge alone is not enough to create a competitive advantage in the labor market.
Jobs that only require simple skills are very easily replaced. Young people need to supplement skills such as communication, building relationships, communication and applying AI to improve competitiveness," Mr. Son said.
According to experts, besides soft skills, the ability to apply digital technology is also becoming a criterion of interest to many businesses when recruiting.
Many businesses appreciate candidates who know how to apply AI, use digital platforms effectively and proactively build personal brands. These are all advantages when recruiting," Mr. Son said.

According to Mr. Son, investing in learning skills will only be effective when young people clearly define their career goals and choose appropriate content.
The important thing is that young people need to understand what jobs they want to pursue and what skills businesses need. Investing in the right skills will help create a sustainable competitive advantage," Mr. Son emphasized.
