Proposal to strengthen cooperation in promoting social dialogue

Hanoi - VGCL proposes that the Norwegian General Confederation of Labour continue to strengthen cooperation in a number of fields, including promoting social dialogue.

On the afternoon of March 30, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the Norwegian General Confederation of Labour (LO Norway) had a working session chaired by Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and Mr. Are Tomasgard - Vice President of LO Norway.

Also working were Mr. Floro Francisco - regional advisor of LO Norway and representatives of the professional department of the VGCL.

At the working session, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Huynh Thanh Xuan affirmed the solidarity and friendship of LO Norway and especially the feelings and contributions of Mr. Are Tomasgard personally to Vietnam and the Vietnam Trade Union.

One of the information provided by Vice Chairman Huynh Thanh Xuan to the LO Delegation of Norway is that the XIV Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union for the term 2026 – 2031 is expected to be held at the end of May 2026.

On this occasion, the VGCL proposed a number of issues that the Vietnam Trade Union and the Norwegian Trade Union need to continue to maintain and promote traditional and good cooperative relations in a more effective direction, to better protect the rights of workers and promote social progress and justice.

In which, the two sides continue to maintain delegation exchanges at all levels, contact and meetings on the sidelines of multilateral activities to enhance mutual understanding, share timely information and experiences in trade union activities and issues related to workers in the current context.

Strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual concern, such as promoting social dialogue, improving the quality of collective bargaining; gathering and protecting informal workers, workers on technology platforms; strengthening social insurance, social security, and welfare policies for workers; vocational training to help workers adapt to the context of digital transformation, green transformation, energy transition; promoting gender equality...

Strengthen cooperation in training and fostering trade union officials to improve skills and capacity, meeting the requirements in the new context.

The VGCL also requested LO Norway to continue to pay attention and support the implementation of the "Social Partnership for Decent Work" project that has been implemented very effectively in Vietnam in the 2024-2025 period.
