Opportunities for workers far from home
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notice on the holiday and Tet holiday schedule for officials, civil servants, public employees and workers throughout the year.
The Hung Kings Commemoration Day falls on Sunday (April 26th of the solar calendar). Due to coinciding with the weekend holiday, workers have compensatory leave on Monday (April 27th).
Including the 2 weekends, the Hung Kings Commemoration holiday lasts 3 days, from Saturday (April 25) to the end of Monday (April 27). The 2 major holidays are April 30 and May 1 of 2026 falling on Thursday and Friday.
For workers who do not have to work on Saturdays, the holiday lasts 4 consecutive days, from April 30 to the end of May 3 (including both weekend days).
It is noteworthy that between these 2 holidays there are only 2 working days (April 28 and 29). Therefore, on social networks in recent days, a proposal has appeared to swap work schedules to connect 2 holidays into a 9-day long holiday in succession, from April 25 - May 3.
Regarding this information, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Department of Labor Conditions - Department of Employment, Ministry of Home Affairs said that the number of holidays of the above holidays is according to the provisions of the Labor Code, and there is currently no new proposal.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong - a garment worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park, Can Tho City - said that if it is possible to arrange for workers to have long holidays, this is very favorable. According to Ms. Hong, many workers work far from home, so long holidays are an opportunity to visit their families or rest after continuous working hours.
Normally we work in shifts, so we are quite busy. If there are longer holidays, we can take advantage of going home or spending time with our families. However, if we have to make up for it to ensure work progress, workers are also ready" - Ms. Hong shared.
Worrying about pushing work
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Van Phuc - a goods delivery staff in Can Tho City - said that combining 2 holidays into a long holiday period needs to be considered because it may affect the work of many workers.
According to Mr. Phuc, some industries such as transportation or services often depend on the delivery schedule of goods, so taking too long leave can disrupt work. "I think taking leave according to the law is reasonable. If it becomes a long holiday, then I may have to make up for it or concentrate more work" - Mr. Phuc said.
Discussing the holiday plan and arranging production labor, Mr. Quach Minh Thao - Chairman of the grassroots Trade Union of Tri - Viet International Co., Ltd. (Can Tho City) - said that the enterprise complies with the holiday schedule prescribed by the State.
Regarding the opinion of extending the 9-day holiday, according to Mr. Thao, having many days off can have a certain impact on the business's shipment schedule. Therefore, after the holiday, the company often has to arrange to make up for work or adjust the work plan to both ensure workers' health and meet production progress.

However, in case the State announces a prolonged holiday, businesses will rebalance their production plans to ensure order progress.
According to Mr. Pham Minh Huan - former Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (now the Ministry of Home Affairs), workers have just gone through a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, so if there is another 9-day holiday in April, it will affect the production progress of many businesses.
The world and the region are also experiencing many fluctuations, affecting the domestic economy, high prices, and impacting businesses.
In the context of the world economy still facing many fluctuations, focusing on production and improving labor productivity is very important. "My personal opinion is that we should not take too long leave at this time because it will negatively affect the progress of work and overall development" - Mr. Pham Minh Huan assessed.
