barriers from low income
The job is stable, but there are few overtime shifts, the monthly income of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao Ngan - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - only ranges from 7 - 8 million VND. Meanwhile, the rental cost is about 1.2 million VND/month, not including food and education for children, making the amount of money the female worker saves insignificantly.
What makes the female worker worried is that the current boarding house is not suitable for taking her child to live with. "The current boarding house is cheap, near the industrial park, convenient for my wife and I to go to work, but if we want to pick up our children to live together, it is very difficult. We still hope to have our own house, not needing to be large, just for amenities and to ensure security and safety for the family, especially the development of children" - Ms. Ngan confided.
Ms. Ngan hesitated between returning to her hometown to build a house, or trying to buy social housing in Can Tho. The female worker said that in her hometown, having land is feasible, building a house for about 200 million VND, but it still takes a long time to save.
At a relatively young age, Mr. Huynh Hai Duong - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - is working hard with the hope of having the conditions to take care of his parents and save some capital to buy a house. However, this is difficult for male workers at the present time when the monthly salary is only about 4.5 - 5 million VND.
This amount is almost just enough for Mr. Duong to cover rent and food expenses. To buy a social housing unit for only 400 - 500 million VND, I think it is really difficult, even impossible. When income is limited and living standards are increasing, commodity prices are climbing day by day, and the salary is just enough for workers to make ends meet, Mr. Duong shared.
With that concern, the male worker's wish does not stop at capital support policies but also simple procedures for workers to easily access social housing.
