Diverse activities to take care of Tet
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation focuses on taking care of all union members and workers, giving priority to workers in especially difficult circumstances, those who have suffered work-related accidents, occupational diseases, serious illnesses, and those affected by natural disasters... Along with that, encouraging and taking care of workers from far away provinces who have not had the opportunity to return home for Tet for many years; workers who stay to work, produce, and do business during Tet.
According to Mr. Vu Ngoc Thuc - Head of the Department of Legal Policy and Labor Relations of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, the City Labor Federation plans to provide subsidies, gifts, and bus tickets and trips for about 35,000 union members and employees; strives for 90% or more of grassroots unions to organize at least one activity to care for union members and employees in accordance with the conditions of the facility. In particular, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Union plans to provide subsidies, gifts, and bus tickets for about 17,000 workers in industrial parks with difficult circumstances on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025.
On the side of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, the highlight activity during the upcoming Lunar New Year 2025 is the "Union Tet Market", scheduled to take place from January 11 to January 19 at the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Labor Cultural Palace. The scale of this year's Tet market is more than 200 booths of businesses inside and outside the city (about 150 commercial booths, 50 food booths and handicraft display booths). The booths displaying and introducing products will have a minimum discount of 10% or more compared to the listed price.
Also within the framework of the program, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation organized free cancer screening for 1,000 employees; organized cultural and artistic activities to create a joyful spring and Tet atmosphere, such as: "Spring Greeting Dance" on January 12, "Sing well, sing well" exchange on January 14 and 16; Festival of folk dance clubs on January 17-18, etc.
Increase funding to support workers during Tet
To make Tet care activities for workers practical and meaningful, Hai Phong City's trade unions at all levels are currently focusing on mobilizing social, local, industry, and business resources...
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Chairman of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation - said that the total budget for Tet care for workers is expected to be 8 billion VND from the city Labor Federation budget, 10 billion VND from the Hai Phong City People's Committee and other mobilized sources. Compared to 2024, the budget for Tet care for union members from the Hai Phong City People's Committee increased from 6 billion VND to 10 billion VND.
This year, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation will not use the "Union Shelter" Fund to take care of union members during Tet, but will focus this fund on taking care of and subsidizing union members in difficult circumstances who suffered damage due to storm No. 3.
The Hai Phong City Labor Federation also directed the grassroots trade union to take care of workers in difficulty and with low incomes, not exceeding 10% of the total number of union members directly managed by the unit; the support level is 500,000 VND/person, paid in cash; the funding source is from the reserve fund and the existing regular operating fund. The grassroots trade union balances revenue and regular expenditures during the year and uses the accumulated union financial resources of the unit to carry out Tet care activities for workers.
According to Ms. Dinh Thi Thuy Ha - Chairwoman of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union, along with mobilizing resources to take care of union members during Tet, the Zone Trade Union participates with enterprises to develop a plan to adjust wages, internal welfare policies according to the city's CPI in 2024 and negotiates the lowest Tet bonus equal to 1 month's salary. The Zone Trade Union also coordinates with employers to promptly resolve employees' recommendations and problems related to wages, Tet bonuses, and Tet holidays; requests enterprises to promptly publicize Tet bonuses so that employees can work with peace of mind.
