Increasing number of fatal work accidents
From the beginning of 2025 to now, there have been 3 serious work accidents in Hai Phong City, causing 3 deaths.
The case at the construction site of the bottle bridge project (Ngo Quyen district, Hai Phong), caused a male worker to death. According to the minutes of the incident, the victim was Mr. N.T.T (born in 2000, residing in Nghe An province), the construction site worker (with labor contracts). In the afternoon of January 12, Mr. T did the removal of the T19-T20 T2-T20 sphere of the bottle bridge and was arranged to dismantle the rig under the bridge. Until 15h25, after finishing the crane cable to pull out the rig, Mr. N.T.T took the radio to signal the crane driving, suddenly fell into the Cam River. The initial investigation showed that Mr. N.T.T in the process of working with a seat belt, but when the accident occurred, the victim did not hook the seat belt into the lifeline wire system, so he fell into the river and died.
According to the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, the cause of unsafe occupational hygiene is that a part of employers and employees have not paid attention to fully implementing standards and regulations on occupational safety and hygiene, environmental protection and policies on labor protection, occupational safety and health care for employees.
The dissemination and dissemination of legal education on occupational safety and health by some enterprises, especially enterprises with a scale of less than 20 employees, is still limited. The team of staff working on occupational safety and hygiene in some enterprises lacks in quantity and is weak in quality due to not being trained and fostered regularly; mainly working part-time and changing frequently, making it difficult to self-inspect at the unit.
Identifying 5 clearly stated areas in implementing occupational safety and hygiene
Speaking at the launching ceremony of the recent Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene 2025, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong said: In 2024, the city had 191 occupational accidents, many of which had unfortunate consequences. The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee proposed all levels, branches, unions, businesses and employees to focus on effective implementation of the Program of Occupational Safety and Hygiene for the period 2023-2025 under Directive No. 31 of the Secretariat and Resolution No. 23 of the City People's Council, with the spirit of "5 clear": clear people, clear responsibilities, clear time and clear results.
Along with that, promote the dissemination of laws and policies on labor safety, especially for groups of workers without contracts; strengthen inspection and examination in high-risk areas such as seaports, mechanics, construction, mineral exploitation, etc. Enterprises proactively identify risks, deploy safe working processes, apply information technology in management, and select partners that meet labor safety and hygiene standards according to national and international standards.
On the part of the Trade Union organization, according to the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, in 2025, the Trade Unions at all levels will focus on disseminating laws on occupational safety and hygiene to raise awareness of compliance with labor protection work to each enterprise and each employee.
