Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor and Khanh Hoa Trade Union Charity Fund have just organized the acceptance and handover of the Trade Union Shelter to Ms. Tran Thi Lan Chi - a union member of the Ninh Hoa Town Medical Center Trade Union under the Provincial Health Sector Trade Union.
Unable to hide her joy, Ms. Tran Thi Lan Chi said - a female housekeeper at Ninh Tan Commune Health Station, her husband is a construction worker and raising 2 young children. The whole family still lives with their parents because the couple's income is only enough to cover their living expenses.
In 2021, Ms. Chi and her husband were discovered to have thyroid cancer. After a period of surgical treatment, with the encouragement of both families and the Ninh Hoa Town Medical Center Trade Union, she encouraged herself to fulfill her dream of having a house.
After the family gave them a piece of land, the couple decided to build a house to have their own home. The first motivation is the initial funding of 60 million VND supported by the Khanh Hoa Trade Union Charity Fund.
After 2 months of efforts, Ms. Chi's 80m2 house with 3 bedrooms, a full and spacious kitchen was basically completed before the 29th of the Lunar New Year.
"I work far from home, traveling and returning 22km every day. With a new, solid house, I feel much more secure" - she shared.
According to Mr. Tran Chi - Chairman of the Ninh Hoa Town Medical Center Trade Union, the unit currently has 474 union members. In recent years, the Central Trade Union has always paid attention to the housing needs of union members.
Through close examination of each situation, union members who meet the conditions of the Central Trade Union propose to the higher-level union to support union members in building warm houses. In the past 3 years, 5 union members have been supported with funding to build warm houses. Up to now, all union members who have received support have a stable life, and their family life has been improved.
Congratulating Ms. Tran Thi Lan Chi's family on a beautiful and spacious new house, Mr. Bui Dang Thanh - Permanent Vice President of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor emphasized the significance of the funding source to create motivation for the trade union.
"The health sector, especially local health centers, has many beneficiaries who are suitable for the conditions to receive support to build trade union shelters. Through union members who have been supported, seeing the practical significance and changes from houses, the program to support union members with housing difficulties will continue to spread more widely" - Mr. Thanh said.
According to Mr. Thanh, the program to support warm houses for union members with housing difficulties has been implemented by the union since 2007.
Over 18 years of implementing, Khanh Hoa trade unions at all levels have awarded support funds to more than 600 union members to build houses and stabilize their lives. In 2024 alone, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor supported 51 union members to repair and rebuild new Trade Union Shelters with a total cost of more than 2.4 billion VND.
In reality, there are still many difficulties in housing, but union members do not own land in accordance with regulations. In recent years, the Provincial Federation of Labor has made appropriate adjustments to the support budget from 20 million VND and now 60 million VND/new construction case; amended the time for union members from 5 years to 3 years so that many union members can receive support.
