The above workshop was just organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour in Hanoi.
According to Ms. Do Hong Van - Member of the Presidium - Deputy Head of the Labor Relations Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, from the practical experience of 5 years of implementing the 2019 Labor Code, the regulations on female workers and ensuring gender equality have created positive changes, but for these policies to truly go into life, bringing practical benefits to union members and workers, especially female workers, it is necessary to continue to improve both policies and implementation mechanisms.
In which, it is necessary to comprehensively review the regulations that are still general principles on gender equality and protection of female workers to concretize them into clear legal obligations of employers.
At the same time, it is necessary to supplement and improve the sanctions for violations to be strong enough, ensuring deterrence and practical implementation capacity, especially for acts of discrimination in recruitment, labor use, training, job arrangement and termination of labor contracts for female workers.
Legal improvement needs to be placed in relation to international conventions to which Vietnam is a member, especially core labor standards of the International Labor Organization.
Reality also shows that there needs to be an incentive mechanism accompanied by appropriate legal binding for employers to proactively implement measures to promote gender equality at work, such as improving working conditions, arranging flexible working hours, creating conditions for female workers to be trained, improve their qualifications and advance.
Investing in or coordinating the construction of kindergartens and kindergartens for workers needs to be considered as a content in the corporate social responsibility, and also as a criterion for evaluating the level of compliance with labor law...
