On November 15, at Thong Nhat Hall (Tan An City), Long An provincial leaders met and discussed with 300 workers, laborers, employers and union officials. Attending the meeting were Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam, Chairman of Long An Provincial Federation of Labor Nguyen Van Qui and leaders of Long An provincial departments and branches.
At the meeting, representatives of employees raised the issue of social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance debts of enterprises in the province, causing employees to quit their jobs but not have their insurance books closed or returned. Employees hope that the Provincial People's Committee will have effective measures and solutions to reduce the rate of social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance arrears to protect the rights of employees.
Unsafe working conditions, inadequate personal protective equipment, lack of regular health check-ups for workers, unsafe working conditions, etc. were also reported by workers.
Workers also expressed concern about the situation where businesses seek to terminate labor contracts with middle-aged workers with high seniority and salaries to hire new, younger workers with low salaries. Workers are concerned about online fraud, technology crimes, cyber crimes, etc. They hope that the province and relevant agencies will take measures to prevent and handle these in order to protect workers.
Workers also reflected on the environmental pollution situation, hoping that the province would promptly handle it, protecting the health of the people and workers. Workers were also concerned about social housing, low-cost housing sold on installments, and rentals for low-income people, hoping that the province would have support policies to stabilize workers' lives.
In response to the opinions and recommendations of workers, at the meeting, representatives of relevant departments and branches directly answered questions and recommendations of workers.
Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam requested heads of provincial departments and branches, Chairmen of People's Committees of districts, towns and cities, based on their assigned functions and tasks, to seriously implement the issues discussed and agreed upon in the meeting and discussion to resolve difficulties and problems raised by employees, employers and trade union officials.
Mr. Lam suggested that the Long An Provincial Federation of Labor continue to build a Trade Union Institution to serve workers, proactively advise the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee to complete investment procedures to soon start construction of the Trade Union Institution on an area of 4.2 hectares in Duc Lap Ha commune, Duc Hoa district.
Mr. Lam suggested that enterprises proactively implement salary policies and benefits for employees equal to or higher than the prescribed level; thereby, creating conditions for employees to enjoy better benefits, contributing to reducing difficulties in employees' lives, promoting and improving business performance.
Mr. Lam also requested that employees raise their awareness of complying with legal regulations; strictly comply with labor discipline and regulations of the unit; all questions and recommendations must be implemented in accordance with prescribed procedures, through the Trade Union organization; on that basis, the Trade Union gathers and negotiates with business owners, resolves in accordance with the law, and avoids production stoppages, strikes, and work stoppages.
