Laborers no longer jump jobs based on feelings

Job hopping after the Lunar New Year is a common occurrence in the labor market. However, in the new context, many workers no longer jump jobs emotionally.

Safety" becomes top priority

Unlike the mindset of "liking and quitting", at this time many workers are more cautious with the decision to quit their jobs. The main reason for this change among workers is pressure from the "cleansing" of personnel due to AI and automation.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, former Director of the Institute of Labor Science and Social Affairs, said that the "dismissal vortex" for the group of slow-adapting workers is making the psychology of the crowd more calm. "Workers understand that in the current context, job hopping without careful preparation is no different from putting themselves into unemployment," Ms. Huong said.

Mr. Vu Duc Giang, a graphic designer at Alee Creative Co., Ltd. (Tay Mo ward, Hanoi), said: "I have changed jobs many times because my field is very open, many companies recruit. However, now I no longer look for jobs based on the inspiration of seeing a beautiful office and applying, seeing projects with foreign elements and being excited. I prioritize companies that clarify expectations and have a transparent career path. If I change jobs just to do repetitive tasks, I know I will soon be replaced by AI.

Ms. Bui Thi Thom, 31 years old - accountant at Minh Thanh School Equipment JSC (Ha Dong ward, Hanoi) said that she had 2 job changes after the Lunar New Year holiday in 2020 and 2024. To date, although she still wants to find a new job with a higher income, Ms. Thom affirms that "she will never change jobs when she is not sure about new opportunities".

Participating in the new Ha Dong ward job transaction session held on April 9, Ms. Thom said that she came to refer to recruitment positions to learn more about opportunities as well as update the requirements of businesses and the requirements of the job market.

For my age, safety is still the number one priority. I often participate in job fairs organized in Hanoi to learn about specific requirements, take advantage of studying, and fostering skills. Opportunities must be really ripe before I transfer jobs," Ms. Thom said.

Prioritize jobs with good training environments

Mr. Vu Quang Thanh - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center said that the biggest difference of the current labor market is the qualitative shift.

Instead of job hopping just because of a higher salary of a few million VND, workers carefully consider the opportunity to change the quality of work, prioritizing shifting to businesses with good training environments. At our satellite job exchanges in Thuong Tin or Thach That, through actual surveys, many unskilled workers and intermediate technical workers are tending to look for units that commit to "retraining". They even accept a starting salary equivalent but in return get a ticket to participate in smart production lines or short-term robot operation courses," Mr. Thanh said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong said that the Vietnamese labor market is witnessing a paradox, although recruitment demand in new industry groups is increasing, the wave of job hopping, especially the peak job hopping after Tet, is no longer as massive and emotional as in previous years. Instead, there is a shift full of calculation, pragmatism and towards sustainability.

Notably, workers have a very clear consideration when changing jobs, logistics and IT workers are "green zones" attracting personnel movement.

Forecasts from the Hanoi Employment Service Center show that high recruitment demand focuses on groups of personnel capable of concurrently performing professional duties. For example, construction engineers know how to use green simulation software; logistics staff know how to operate smart warehouses; marketing experts know how to manage data.

Faced with the calculated wave of workers' movements, businesses are also having to reinvent themselves. Keeping talents, especially the younger generation of workers, is no longer simply a story of salaries and bonuses.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Ha - representative of the US English English Center System shared that businesses today must do a good job of "unifying expectations". "Daily breaks, an open working environment and transparency in KPI assessment are becoming important factors to retain personnel more effectively than any hot bonus," Ms. Ha said.
