Young banking workers learn how to master AI

Thanh Bình |

The banking labor market is demanding more from new graduates, not only the ability to meet the job immediately but also the ability to adapt, master data, technology and AI.

More than 1 year after graduating, Nguyen Minh Thuy (23 years old, Hanoi) realized that AI and technology are strongly impacting the finance - banking industry, but people still play an important role, especially in the position of personal customer development specialist.

According to Thuy, technology can support information processing, but receiving needs, collecting dossiers, appraising and assessing customer borrowing capacity still requires connection and analysis from people.

AI and technology can support interpreting customer information, searching for regulations through chatbots, but do not replace the self-study of bank employees.

Thuy said that credit institutions must regularly update knowledge, grasp the process to appraise customers, assess risks and ensure safety when disbursing.

Three important competency groups

Sharing with Lao Dong, MSc. Truong Hoang Diep Huong - Institute of Banking Science Research, Banking Academy - said: "It is difficult to expect a new graduate to immediately become proficient in all processes at a bank, because each organization has its own products, technology systems, nghiệp vụ processes, management models and risk appetites.

What a university needs to ensure is not to train students to belong to the process of a specific bank, but to create a good enough foundation for them so that the transition time from "students" to "bank personnel" is shortened as possible.

According to Ms. Huong, a new graduate who meets the needs of businesses well needs to have at least three groups of competencies.

First, a solid professional foundation to understand the nature of the profession. Second, the ability to work with data, technology and digital tools. Third, increasingly important, is the ability to self-learn, communicate, analyze problems and adapt quickly to the working environment.

4 skills, core knowledge

To help young people not only "get in" but also "stay" in the face of fierce elimination pressure, Dr. Chau Dinh Linh - Finance - Banking expert, lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking - said that it is necessary to overcome the trap of static professional knowledge. With 4 skills, core knowledge includes:

Digital competence and data thinking: Young workers must know how to read and understand data reports, use CRM systems proficiently and know how to coordinate with AI tools to optimize personal work performance.

Next, critical thinking and problem-solving. In an environment where real situations are constantly changing, the ability to identify hidden risks (especially credit risk and digital fraud), analyze the nature of the problem and come up with independent solutions is a highly valuable ability.

Along with that are multitasking and self-adaptation skills. The flat banking model requires an employee to know preliminary appraisal, know how to cross-sell insurance, invest and have customer care skills.

Finally, emotional intelligence (EQ) and stress management. Banking is an industry with KPI pressure and strict compliance. The ability to maintain professional ethics, composure and empathy in communicating with customers is the core that AI cannot replace.
