Workers in mountainous areas confidently step out into the world

From seasonal trips to Korea, many workers in the mountainous areas of Da Nang have accumulated capital, built houses, worked and changed their lives, opening up new directions for poverty reduction in the highlands.

Going to Korea to build a house, make a living

In 2024, Mr. Ho Van Yeu and his wife (Hua Xa village, Nam Tra My commune, Da Nang city) decided to send their two children to relatives to work seasonally in Korea for 5 months. Working on a farm in Hamyang district - from farming to harvesting agricultural products - is not unfamiliar to the Ca Dong couple who are used to working in the fields.

In the early days, the farm owner patiently instructed on techniques and requirements for productivity and labor safety.

Farmwork in Korea is very professional, but suitable for the needs of mountainous people. Every month, after the expenses, my wife and I save more than 50 million VND. Thanks to that, returning home, we were able to build a solid house, no longer experiencing leaking rain and wind" - Mr. Yeu said.

Also at Nam Tra My, Ms. Pham Trieu Man is one of the few people who have gone to Korea 4 times to work, each 8-month trip helped her accumulate more than 200 million VND. With that amount of money, she paid off all the debt, bought land to plant 10,000 cinnamon trees, built a new house and bought a means of transportation.

"The most important thing is that I learn a serious working style, thanks to which when I return to my hometown, everything will be smooth" - Ms. Man shared.

Stories like Mr. Yeu and Ms. Man have become a "catalyst" for people in mountainous communes to proactively register to work abroad, changing their awareness of escaping poverty.

According to Mr. Vo Nhu Son Tra - Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My Commune People's Committee, since 2021, Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province (old) has been one of the pioneering localities in the country in implementing the model of sending workers to Korea according to the commune-district cooperation agreement.

From 2021 to now, nearly 300 workers have come to Korea to work. The good news is that 100% of workers comply with the law, no one has fled. Thanks to that, the partner trusted and every year suggested increasing the receiving target" - Mr. Tra said.

In 2025, in particular, the 5 communes of Nam Tra My, Tra Tap, Tra Leng, Tra Van, Tra Linh have had 125 workers go to Korea. The recruitment round at the end of November 2025 had more than 220 registrants and more than 100 successful candidates, many of whom had gone in previous seasons.

Borrowing preferential capital helps people confidently step out into the world

Not only in Nam Tra My, many localities such as Bac Tra My, Hiep Duc, Hoa Vang... have also proactively signed labor cooperation agreements with Korean localities such as Bonghwa, Yeongyang, Seongju, Hamyang. Along with that, vocational schools in Da Nang are stepping up sending students to Japan, Germany, Laos, Cambodia... to expand the "door" to international jobs for young people.

According to Mr. Le Phu Nguyen - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Vang commune, local workers are highly appreciated by their partner Bonghwa district (Gyeongsangbuk province, Korea) for their hard work quality and skills, leading to the Korean side planning to expand to 50 workers by 2026, which can even increase if the quality continues to be good.

According to Mr. Hoang Thanh Lan, Deputy Director of the Social Policy Bank of Da Nang, the bank is lending 100% of exit expenses, with an interest rate of 6.6%/year, prioritizing poor households, near-poor households and ethnic minorities. By the end of October 2025, nearly 13 billion VND had been disbursed to 280 workers.

The loan policy is clearly effective, but will only be effective until the end of 2025, so the bank recommends that the city soon extend the program to ensure the needs of the people.

According to the Department of Home Affairs of Da Nang, the mountainous area of Da Nang currently has nearly 129,000 workers, the training rate is over 46%. Since the beginning of the year, the city has sent 2,609 workers to work for a limited period in 14 foreign markets.

These figures reflect a new trend, workers in the highlands are no longer relying on simple support, but are proactively seeking opportunities, proactively changing their lives with their own labor.
