Young workers lack many skills
Mr. Nguyen Ha Minh has just graduated from the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
Mr. Minh shared that he clearly understood his experience and skills, so he did not apply for a job immediately after graduation.
I am confident that I have knowledge during my studies but have not participated in many expanded learning activities such as teamwork. I also do not do extra work related to the major I study, so I am sure that when applying, the application will not be outstanding enough, and I will not be able to convince the employer, Mr. Minh frankly admitted.

According to Mr. Minh, practical experience is what he lacks the most. In addition, studying the current labor market, he clearly sees fierce competition between candidates and increasingly high demands in employers.
I have participated in a number of job fairs, even been interviewed directly, I see that employers prioritize candidates with a lot of experience and proficient in many soft skills. Meanwhile, these requirements are a missing point for the majority of new graduates. Currently, I am trying to learn more necessary skills and seek internship opportunities to improve myself, said Mr. Minh.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy has also just finished her Accounting major at Hanoi Banking and Finance University.
Ms. Thuy also did not dare to apply for a job immediately after graduating because she realized that she had no experience. In addition, in her field, the recruitment demand is not high but the supply of candidates in the market is very large.
I carefully researched many recruitment sites, many accounting candidate applications posted to find jobs, while the recruitment demand was much lower, and there were many additional requirements such as experience requirements, specialized accounting... I decided to apply for a non-salary internship and learn more English to improve my qualifications and skills before entering the labor market, said Ms. Thuy.
Enterprises want to recruit qualified and experienced workers
According to Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment, lack of experience and having to compete with long-time workers; businesses increasingly require high degrees and certificates, or lack of skills... are barriers that make it difficult for young workers to find jobs in the current market...
In Hanoi, statistics from the Hanoi Employment Service Center show that in the first months of the year, job seekers are mainly concentrated in the 25-34 age group, this number accounts for 45 - 50% of total demand.
According to Mr. Vu Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center, there are many reasons why young workers may have difficulty finding a job in the current labor market.
First is the lack of experience because the majority of young graduates lack practical work experience in the industry or position they are interested in. Meanwhile, employers often favor candidates with work experience, many businesses consider recruiting young workers as a risk factor.
"There was a time when, in Hanoi, up to 50% of vacant jobs required workers to have 2 years or more of experience," said Mr. Thanh.
Mr. Thanh added that young workers also face fierce competition from experienced workers. Another difficulty is that businesses have high requirements for degrees and certificates. Some job positions require specific degrees or certificates, and this can be a barrier for young workers who have just graduated or do not have the conditions to study.
