Dream come true
The Trade Union Shelter Program is an opportunity to create positive changes in the lives of many workers' families. They no longer have to worry about accommodation, they can focus more on work and contribute more effectively to the community and society.
Ms. Tien Thi Viet Phuong (Tra Vinh City) said that after 10 years working at a garment company in Tra Vinh City, the rental fee for a room was limited to more than 1 million VND, and she never dared to dream of owning her own house. Recently, Ms. Phuong has been supported by the Union and benefactors to have a spacious home. According to Ms. Phuong, this is extremely meaningful for the family when there is a place to call home without having to worry about rent.
"After many years of living in poverty and struggling in a rented room, the family now has a real home. It is not only the joy of a new house, but also a new hope, opening up opportunities for the whole family to start over, living a more stable and fulfilling life" - Ms. Phuong happily expressed.
Also one of the cases awarded the Trade Union Shelter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tuyen (Cang Long district, Tra Vinh) said that being supported to build a new house not only helps the family have a safe place to live, but also brings joy, stability and peace of mind in life.
According to Ms. Tuyen, her family used to live in a makeshift house, and every time it rained, leachate leaked into the house. "Having a new, spacious, solid house is not only a place to live but also a stepping stone for the family to build a better life. Our family is very grateful for the valuable support from the Trade Union organization so that the family is motivated to try harder" - Ms. Ngoc Tuyen shared.
Efforts for workers
Speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Tran Thi Kim Chung - President of the Tra Vinh Provincial Federation of Labor - said that in 2024, the Trade Union Shelter Program had built 77 new houses for workers and laborers with housing difficulties in Tra Vinh province.
Based on identifying those in difficult circumstances, in 2025, the Standing Committee of the Tra Vinh Provincial Federation of Labor will mobilize the construction of 70 or more units for union members, workers and laborers.
In addition, Labor Federations at all levels have mobilized relatives and socialized additional funding sources for subjects receiving support for Trade Union Shelters, not only from the Trade Union Shelter fund of 50 million VND. Thanks to that, the value of the house can be up to 70 - 80 million VND, or even more than 100 million VND.
According to the Chairman of the Tra Vinh Provincial Federation of Labor, the support does not stop at building houses but also provides additional support for union members and workers with household appliances; and additional financial support for households in difficult circumstances. This not only helps improve living conditions but also helps them focus on economic development, without having to worry about housing.
