Tet comes to workers in the foggy land
Amidst the dry sunshine of the Northwest spring, through the hazy fog, the joy of the children in the house on the mountainside of Ms. Le Thi Hue - a worker at the Moc Chau Tuynel Brick Factory - is clearly reflected.
This year, Ms. Hue was honored to be one of the members receiving Tet gifts from the Son La Provincial Federation of Labor. Returning from the Tet Sum Vay program organized by the Son La Provincial Federation of Labor, her children were waiting at the door, receiving the gift bags with joy like a mother coming home from the market.
Unable to hide her excitement, Ms. Hue shared: “Last year was a difficult year. With a small salary, I had to balance my expenses to ensure my children’s education and my family’s living expenses. Tet is approaching, but my family has not been able to buy much because of limited financial resources and busy work. Fortunately, understanding the situation of workers, the trade unions at all levels have provided timely support.”
Sharing the joy of the New Year, Mr. Vi Van Khanh - a worker at Ta Niet Hydropower Joint Stock Company - could not hide his excitement. According to this male worker, the gifts not only provide material support but also encourage the workers to make more efforts in the coming year, and also to dispel the bone-chilling cold that is spreading to the remote border region of Son La.
Mr. Vang A La - Chairman of the Son La Provincial Federation of Labor - said that in 2024, trade unions at all levels in the province organized many practical and meaningful activities towards union members and workers in difficult circumstances.
Especially on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, with the wish that all union members and employees have Tet, welcome a warm spring full of love, the Provincial Federation of Labor has focused resources to care for and support Tet gifts for over 5,600 union members and employees in difficult circumstances; visit and give gifts to units on duty during Tet, difficult communes assigned by the Provincial Federation of Labor to help... with a total amount of over 3 billion VND; deploy the online program "Union Tet Market 2025" for nearly 2,500 union members and employees with a total amount of over 1.2 billion VND.
"Tet Sum Vay" on the mountain, in the middle of the forest
These days, the Vietnam Railways Union (VNR) is coordinating with stations along the Central region to organize a Tet Sum vay for union members. What is special is that the stations chosen this year are all located in remote areas with poor working environments... In the midst of the vast emptiness, surrounded by mountains on all sides, more than 80 union members and workers of the Vinh Hao Station Union (Tuy Phong District, Binh Thuan) gathered for the first time for a "Tet Sum vay" meal with the leaders of the Vietnam Railways Corporation and the VNR Union.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Cu - representative of Vinh Hao Station Union - shared that this is an especially difficult area, the working locations along the Vinh Hao Station Union route are far from the market, far from residential areas, and the terrain is remote, so the lives of union members and employees in the station area are almost more attached to the workplace than at home. When they learned that this year the Corporation would choose this place to organize the program "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ung Dang", many union members and employees in the station area eagerly awaited.
Excitedly showing off the first New Year's card received from the leaders of the Vietnam Railways Trade Union, Mr. Le Quy Hoc - a train operator at Ca Na station (belonging to the Vinh Hao Station Union) said: "I have been working in the mountains, the sea, and the station for 27 years. This is the first year that the entire Vinh Hao Station Union celebrates Tet early together, very happy and warm. At the central stations, it is bustling and crowded, but here it is very quiet, so we "crave" to hear people's voices. Thanks to the "Tet Sum Vay" program organized for the first time by the corporation and the union, now we know each other because at the station every day everyone is busy with their own tasks. This is a very meaningful program to encourage the spirit of the station's union members and workers before entering the peak working days."
For employees working at Lang Co Station (Lang Co town, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien - Hue), one of the stations located on the most dangerous railway route in Vietnam - Hai Van Pass - "Tet Sum vay" is always the most anticipated festival of the year. Especially for employee Dinh Xuan Hoa - a train operator on duty, this year he celebrates "Tet Sum vay" with his colleagues in double happiness.
Because besides the year-end reunion dinner and the warm Tet gifts like his colleagues, Mr. Bac also received 70 million VND from the union and the company to build a house in the new year.
Mr. Hoa shared: “This amount of money is a great spring gift, both spiritually and materially - helping my family have the conditions to build a spacious house. I am even more motivated to strive for the construction of roads, dear to the railway industry.”
According to the leader of the Vietnam Railways Trade Union, "keeping warm" for workers in remote areas when spring comes is always the wish of the trade union. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Vietnam Railways Trade Union has been bringing the program "Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ung Deng" to workers at 282 stations nationwide. This year, the program spent more than 18 billion VND visiting and giving gifts to 1,262 workers in difficult circumstances; providing Tet allowances for 240 workers; giving gifts to 770 groups working on New Year's Eve; visiting, encouraging, and wishing New Year to workers directly working on train operations on New Year's Eve; supporting 77 Tet train tickets for workers...
