Towards the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union for the 2026-2031 term, on behalf of the Executive Committee of the Grassroots Trade Union (CĐCS) of Can Tho Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, Ms. Lam Nguyet Thanh - Chairwoman of the Trade Union - had heartfelt contributions to the Draft Report of the Executive Committee of the 13th Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (LĐLĐ).
Through studying the draft, I highly agree with the spirit of responsibility and the elaborate preparation of this important document. With a tight structure and comprehensive content, the draft report clearly shows the role and responsibility of the Vietnam Trade Union organization in caring for and protecting workers and participating in the socio-economic development of the country. However, to make the document more complete, I propose to continue to review and supplement more innovative solutions that are close to the grassroots reality and suitable for the development trend in the current period," Ms. Thanh emphasized.
First of all, regarding the evaluation of the results of the old term, Ms. Thanh said that the draft report needs to delve into the substantive and effective analysis of the work of caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers (ĐV, NLĐ), especially in the non-state enterprise sector, joint-stock companies and areas with a large number of direct workers. Besides the achieved results, it is extremely necessary to clearly point out the difficulties and limitations along with subjective and objective reasons in the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions, creating a solid basis for proposing practical solutions for the next term.
In particular, in the context of increasingly strong digital transformation, the draft report should supplement the content of building a "Digital Trade Union" by strongly applying information technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms to union member management, innovating propaganda work, as well as receiving feedback to support workers in a timely manner. In parallel, the Trade Union organization needs to have specific solutions to improve the capacity and digital skills of officials at all levels, meeting the requirements of innovating operating methods in the new situation.
Regarding care work, it is necessary to pay more attention to sustainable policies such as housing support, social welfare, building a safe working environment and comprehensive health care for union members and workers.
Trade union levels must pay special attention to low-income workers, workers working in hazardous environments, high pressure, or those directly affected by the process of arranging and transforming businesses," Ms. Thanh proposed.
To realize the above goals, one of the key tasks is to continue to improve the quality of the contingent of Trade Union officials. Accordingly, it is necessary to supplement a group of solutions to train and foster a contingent of officials with firm political bravery, sensitivity to skills in dialogue, negotiation and grasping the thoughts of union members and workers. Grassroots trade union activities must strengthen proactiveness, closeness to grassroots levels, and limit administrativeization in order to promote the role of representing and speaking out to protect union members and workers.
Movements need to be comprehensively changed in both content and form in a substantive direction, closely linked to professional tasks and labor productivity instead of being spread out and formalistic. Mechanisms to encourage and replicate initiative models, technical innovations, associated with digital transformation, cost savings and environmental protection among workers, civil servants, and laborers need to be emphasized.
In summary, regarding the direction and tasks for the 2026 - 2031 term, the Chairman of the Grassroots Trade Union of Can Tho Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company expressed his desire that the draft report should more clearly identify key targets, breakthroughs and feasible implementation solutions.
This ensures that the activities of the Trade Union organization are suitable for the context of digital economic development, deep international integration and the requirements of building a modern working class. From there, continue to strongly affirm the role of the Vietnam Trade Union organization as always a solid support for union members and workers.
