Automation of coal collection lines
To realize the goal of basically becoming a digital enterprise by 2030, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) on January 31, 2024, the TKV Board of Members issued Decision No. 243/QD-TKV on " Approving the Digital Transformation Project of the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group for the period up to 2025, with a vision to 2030".
According to the Project, digital transformation is identified as a key task to improve production - business efficiency and labor productivity.
On that basis, TKV is promoting the application of technology, effectively exploiting data to optimize production activities, while creating a modern, safe working environment and increasing income for workers.
From the Group's major policy, many member units have proactively concretized it with practical solutions. In particular, Cua Ong Coal Selection Company is one of the pioneers when on March 19, 2025, it officially put into operation the Control and Automation System of Coal Selection Plant 2.
The Coal Selection 2 plant was built in 1980, after many years of operation, the control system has become outdated. The company has implemented the investment in phase 1 "Controlling and automation system of Coal Selection Plant 2" with a budget of 89 billion VND, completed and put into use since February 2023.
From July 2024, the enterprise will continue to implement phase 2 with a budget of more than VND94 billion, installing sensors, PLC cabinets, transformers, cutters, industrial wifi systems; upgrading the control program and SCADA to automate key stages, while renovating the camera system, power stations, conveyor belts and radio stations to serve production operations.
In addition to the automation line, the company has launched technical innovation initiatives in all workshops and production teams. As a result, in the first 9 months of 2025, 220 initiatives were applied, reaching 108% of the annual plan, with an estimated profit value of VND 2.8 billion. Thereby contributing to the effective implementation of the company's targets, reaching from 68.4% to 74.5% of the annual plan; the average income of employees reached 12.93 million VND/person/month, equivalent to 106.45% of the plan.

Mr. Do Van Tang, Chairman of the Trade Union of Cua Ong Coal Selection Company, said: "The company has just launched a 9-day and night emulation movement to complete the 2025 plan, associated with two key programs: "The whole country competes for innovation and digital transformation" and " digitization of the people".
The goal is to promote the spirit of Solidarity - Discipline - Unity, complete the production of 2.336 million tons of clean coal, consume 2.401 million tons, ensure safety and increase workers' income".
Building smart mines
On a large scale, TKV has achieved many outstanding results in production digitalization: 100% of units have centralized operating rooms; 70% of mines automate power systems; 61.5% of mines automate wind fans and 53.8% of mines automate water pumping and drainage stations.
Many important equipment have been localized such as the detonator hydraulic excavator, ME01-DE drilling machine, 120kN battery locomotive, self- propelled anti-lock and ZRY software, helping to reduce import costs, proactively implement technology, increase safety and efficiency of exploitation.
Along with modernizing equipment, TKV focuses on digital transformation in management and operation. To date, the Group has built a Data Center, operated a centralized data warehouse system and smart reporting. TKV is coordinating with Viettel to deploy a digital transformation plan for the 2025 period, piloting a "smart mine" model in Khe Cham, managing modern equipment in Mao Khe, towards digitizing all production activities.

In the period of 20262030, TKV aims to deploy breakthrough technology solutions such as: geophysical exploration, automated drilling, synchronous mechanical mines, automatic transportation equipment, monitoring and exploitation on the IoT - 5G platform; research on the application of robots to check mine routes, 3D digital maps in exploitation management; treatment and recycling of mine wastewater, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
To achieve that goal, TKV promotes international cooperation, trains high-quality human resources, applies advanced safety management models such as ISO 45001, BBS, Zero Harm, and considers safety and environmental protection as a top priority.
