She reads to stay abreast of major activities of the trade union - the organization she has been associated with and served throughout her career.
Retired but not stopped reading Lao Dong newspaper
Ms. Oanh was the Chairwoman of the Bac Giang Provincial Federation of Labor from 2008 to 2012. During that time, printed newspapers were still the most popular form of journalism. She recalls that at that time, the post office would not deliver newspapers to the office until almost noon; then, the clerical department would distribute the newspapers to each department. During her lunch break, she spent time reading newspapers.
According to the former leader of the Bac Giang Provincial Trade Union, Lao Dong Newspaper has very useful information that helps her to better lead and direct the trade union system in the province. "There are activities in other localities that are well implemented, but if there is no press coverage, I would not know. From the above articles, when I know about these new activities, if my province does not have them, I can learn and research how to implement them," Ms. Oanh recounted.
After retirement, she still received newspapers under the policy for former leaders of the Provincial Federation of Labor. Therefore, she still maintained the habit of reading newspapers.
"Although I am retired and the Internet and electronic newspapers have developed strongly, I still want to read paper newspapers. Holding a paper newspaper in my hand to read articles about my organization and workers - the subjects I have been attached to all my life - is a very special feeling," the former provincial union leader shared. In addition, Ms. Oanh also reads electronic newspapers on her phone. According to her, each type of press has its own advantages, and if combined skillfully, they will complement each other very well.
Thanks to regularly reading newspapers, she still has a firm grasp of the activities, policies, and major plans of the trade union organization as well as the activities of trade unions at all levels in the province.
"In the operation of an organization, the voice of the press is very important. If the press operates well, highlighting typical collective and individual examples will be a great way to promote and encourage better movements. As for Lao Dong Newspaper, I think that at any time, the newspaper is indispensable in the life and activities of the Trade Union organization," she shared.
Ms. Oanh's son - Mr. Nguyen Quyet Chien is currently a specialist in the Propaganda and Women's Department (Bac Giang Provincial Labor Federation). Working in a position that regularly comes into direct contact with reporters, like his mother, he highly respects and appreciates the accompanying role of the press in the trade union system, especially Lao Dong Newspaper.
According to an officer of the Propaganda and Women's Union Department, after reading Lao Dong newspaper, he found that the newspaper has fully conveyed the activities of the national trade union system. "The newspaper has built a national trade union page, posting a variety of activities of many local trade unions and trade unions in different sectors. It can be said that this is a "library" of activities of trade unions at all levels in different localities," Mr. Chien compared.
"Companion"
The companionship between Lao Dong Newspaper and union officials is not only figurative, but in many cases, is also understood literally.

Mr. Tran Trong Thai, Permanent Vice President of the Nam Dinh Provincial Labor Federation, shared that when he was still the Chairman of the Inspection Committee, he and a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper once went on a motorbike together to a district to investigate the case of workers being owed wages.
After that, Lao Dong Newspaper published the incident, thanks to which the incident was resolved, and the workers were paid. "I remember, when the above results were available, the workers were happy, the reporters and union officials were equally happy. The companionship of reporters and union officials - both literally and figuratively - protected the legitimate rights of the workers," Mr. Tran Trong Thai shared.
Mr. Thai added that he always highly appreciated the role of the press in general and of Lao Dong Newspaper in accompanying the trade union to protect the rights of union members and workers.
"It can be said that information in Lao Dong Newspaper is indispensable for the movement of workers, civil servants and trade union activities of the whole country. I hope that Lao Dong Newspaper, together with trade union organizations and trade union officials, will always accompany to better protect the legitimate and legal rights of workers," said the Permanent Vice President of the Nam Dinh Provincial Labor Federation.
