Difficulties and urgent needs
In recent years, the issue of building public housing for teachers in Quang Binh province has received special attention from all levels and sectors. However, in the face of increasing demand, especially in remote areas where economic conditions are still difficult, many teachers still face a lack of accommodation.
This has significantly affected the quality of teaching and the lives of teachers. Faced with this situation, the Quang Binh Provincial Federation of Labor has proposed many solutions to overcome difficulties, bring joy and create conditions for teachers to feel secure in their profession.
In remote areas, most teachers have to work far from home. Not only do they lack facilities, they also face difficult living conditions as the official housing has deteriorated.
At Nguyen Trai High School (in Phuc Trach commune, Bo Trach district), many rows of public buildings built long ago have been water-logged and severely damaged.
At Lam Thuy Kindergarten (Le Thuy district), the issue of boarding houses for staff and teachers is also a matter of concern. With a large number of teachers needing accommodation but the facilities are not sufficient, the construction of new public housing is a long-term requirement, contributing to stabilizing life and improving teaching efficiency.
Recognizing the important role of public housing, the Quang Binh Provincial Labor Federation has implemented many practical activities to improve living conditions for teachers in disadvantaged localities.
Continue to expand scale and quality
Chairwoman of the Quang Binh Provincial Federation of Labor Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan said: “In the past time, we have coordinated with local authorities to invest in building public housing, each worth from 1.1 billion to 1.2 billion VND. Of which, the Provincial Federation of Labor supported 70% of the cost from the Trade Union Social Fund, the rest was contributed by local authorities.”
A typical example is the new boarding house at Nguyen Trai High School, completed at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year with a total cost of VND900 million. The project includes 4 self-contained rooms, each room is 32m2 in area, with basic furniture.
Ms. Mai Thi Thuy - Literature teacher of the school said that having a boarding house is not only a new and more spacious place to live but also becomes a real home for teachers away from home. This is a joy and also a motivation for each staff to try harder in the process of working.
Similarly, the Provincial Federation of Labor has supported the construction of a dormitory in Lam Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District, with a total investment of 1.2 billion VND. The project consists of 5 rooms, each designed in a modern, self-contained style with full amenities such as a kitchen, bedroom, and toilet. These dormitories have helped reduce the burden and create better conditions for teachers to devote themselves to the cause of education.
Over the past 10 years, the Quang Binh Provincial Federation of Labor has supported the construction of 11 public housing units in disadvantaged areas with a total cost of nearly 10.4 billion VND. These projects have replaced old, dilapidated housing units with new, spacious and solid housing units.
The public housing not only solves the daily living needs but also has great spiritual significance. For teachers, public housing is an encouragement and motivation for them to be confident in their profession, and at the same time, have more motivation to complete their tasks well.
Despite many positive results, the issue of public housing still faces many challenges. The demand for public housing for teachers, especially in remote areas, is still high. In the coming time, the Provincial Federation of Labor will continue to coordinate with all levels and sectors to expand the scale and improve the quality of public housing.
